Well I'm having a brain fart and can't remember how to read my allison fluid diagrams (doesn't help they are black and white).

2005 lly, stock air/ fuel/ trans 140k

Truck is throwing a p0716 code under heavy throttle from a stop. Will bang second and then limp.

Filters have been changed before I got the truck along with all the wiring checked and I believe they even put a tss on it.

I can slip the trans while in 5th locked and rolling into throttle on higher trans safe tunes. Holds fine in the lower settings in 5th.. 1-2 you can limp it on stock power.

Obviously needs a rebuild, just trying to figure out what clutch pack would cause both issues and learn a couple things.

apologies in advance on my stupidity and thanks for any information.

5th is c2 slipping.

1-2 shift is C1 and C5 being swapped with C1 and C4. So you could have a very wounded C4 pack or apply piston. Or it could be a valve body issue.

5th gear is slipping simply because it's tired. I'm starting to think the only "safe" tune for a stock 5 speed is the stock one. Seems like it doesn't take hardly anything to make them slip 5th gear.....

Ok that verifies what I was thinking. I was pretty sure 1-2 and 5th had no relation.

I've got a known good valve body I thought about swapping in to see if it fixed the 1-2

Have you pulled the pan and cut the filter apart yet?

Ok. You said they had been changed before you got it. I didn't know how long ago it was....

Is it worth swapping the valve body to see if my 1-2 issue is any better? They can probably limp by on the higher gear slips but the 1-2 is an issue

all that black in there is NOT a good sign lol unless someone has been using a grinding wheel right next to it

That's what im hoping happened lol

I'll find out later when I pull the pan and valve body.

Dropped pan and swapped valve bodies. Got it all warmed up and did a re learn with my scan tool.

Same ole thing..

Noticed tonight if I flat foot it from a stop it'll never make it to 2nd.. If I get it in 2nd and roll into it hard it'll never leave 2nd..

Sounds like mike was right about the smoked c1s..

On stock power level is where im doing this.

Update on this.. Tearing this trans down and putting a kit in from Evan right now.. C1-c2 look beautiful.. C3 is a little toasted no where near as bad as I've seen
