I'm having an issue with a buddies 08. The truck under heavy loads and not every time, throws a p0087 low fuel rail pressure code. I've already done the bottle test and didn't get any fuel. Balance rates are all from 1.4 to -.5 at idle. What's next ?

Doing a return rate test on the injectors and checking the CP3 pump would be your next step. How many miles are on your truck?

Is the truck tuned? Running a lift pump? Have you checked the fuel rail pressure relief valve? Also check the qd fuel lines by the right valve cover and make sure the feed line isn't sucked shut.

Truck has 240,000. Stock tuning and no lift pump. Sorry should have given more info to start. Shouldn't be the relief valve given that I did the bottle test and got no fuel in the bottle. I had the truck loaded down with about 12,000 lbs and couldn't get it to pop a code. He came and got it and got a code with in an hour.

The first place to start is checking the rubber fuel line sections from tank to engine.
The ones that are common to fail is towards the front, just follow the fuel line to the engine.
If that checks out ok then move on to the other mechanical stuff mentioned.

Or slap a lift pump on and run it til it dies, should make it at least 50k with bad returns and stock tuning. When you have a lift pump running 15 psi and still only get 18k max rail pressure then it's time for injectors. :D
