Overdrive gone

So problem number 1 I rolled into the throttle on level 5 in 5th gear at about 60mph knowing it may cause problems and it did. Put the truck in limp mode and wouldn't shift into overdrive and the torque converter is slipping. Threw a check engine light and pulled a P0700 code through the Insight. After hooking up to a Solus, it pulls a 5th gear not in position. At this point I've lost 5th and reverse. However, after clearing the codes it drives ok til on the highway where it does the same thing after reaching overdrive. After checking the codes it comes up with a 0711 which is transmission temp sensor circuit failure. Any ideas? I thought it may a shift solenoid but could have smoked overdrive as well. Any other ideas?

Since we dont see "built transmission" in your sig line, guess its time for you add it to your list. The trans isnt going to magically fix itself after you've limped it like that.

Yeah it's stock. I guess I should've asked a couple more specific questions. I understand that one possibility of repair is replacing the shift solenoids as they could be the culprit also and not necessarily the mechanical workings. Is there a way to test this or am I just delaying the inevitable? Oddly enough there are 4 solenoids that control the shifting duties, all have the same part number, but every diagram I've found, including one from a pretty good contact at a local Chevy dealership, don't tell you what solenoid controls what gear shift so I could at least attempt to swap it. It's a very cheap potential repair so was going to at least attempt it before pulling the trans.

Actually there is 3 shift solenoids, and then 2 trim solenoids that actually do the shifting. The 3 shift solenoids simply change the shift valves to control the fluid flow for the trim valves to apply and release the clutches. And then you have the 6th solenoid for the TCC(starting in 04 they added a 7th which was the G solenoid to drop 100PSI of mainline pressure). With 5th and reverse having problems, sure sounds like you did a number on your C3's. I imagine 3rd doesn't feel the best either since the C3's are used in R, 3rd, and 5th.

So from the sounds of it start with the solenoids then go from there. I can get through 1-3 ok and now after the truck has been sitting for a week and I've been driving my Jeep the truck goes into reverse with no problems and hasn't made any clunking or other horrific noises. Can the trim solenoids also be affected? Should they be replaced as well?

I would start with a known good pressure switch manifold since you have a temp code.

We'll, the guy who pulled my codes was reading 2 trucks back to back and apparently my truck wasn't reading the P0711 but was actually reading a P0735 which is 5th gear incorrect ratio. Some of it could be related to the pressure switch. Any other ideas?

P0735 = 5th gear slip. 2 things will cause this. Burnt clutches or speed sensor problem. Pressure switch or solenoids will not throw this code. Trim solenoids will not throw this code. The speed sensor feedback numbers to the TCM were not within the acceptable parameters.
