Phoenix Welding Supply just dropped off my brand new Lincoln Vantage 400. The old 400 is going to the shop for some much needed repairs! When it gets back it will be my dedicated arc gouging machine.
Good call on having a dedicated air arc machine. I have to be honest though, if I never hear that screeching crap again it will be to soon. I don't mind doing it but hate having to listen to someone else do it.
I can't arc gouge without ear plugs. That is a sound that no one should have to listen to. As a matter of fact that is all I'll be doing for the next 2 days... Awesome... :-(
When my dad was working in the refineries in the early 80s, he would arc gouge inside 40"+ pipe with no hearing protection. I dont know how he did that?! Or why?
Holy smokes! Can he hear at all now? I use dual hearing protection when I have to air arc a bunch. When the damn welders come over to the Cat House to do welding I still have to listen to it once in awhile.
I don't have to do it much anymore, just a bearing race here or there, no more bucket rebuilds. I like to weld, just not full time. I do most of Cat's welding updates at the mine.
I have about 15 hours on the new welder, all I can say is WOW! Being able to turn the amps up and control the arc is amazing. Still fine tuning the exact amp/arc control settings but this thing rips.
Almost no spatter and I'm running a lot hotter than I did on the old machine. If anyone is in the market for a new welder/generator the Vantage Series is well worth the money.
