Hey guys, I have a question for some of you that are a little smarter than I am when it comes to electrical stuff.
My Deercam likes to eat batteries. A lot of them. They sell a 12v battery kit for it for about $45 but it is backordered:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=stealth+cam&noImage=0

It says on the camara it is a 12v 8amp input. I got a battery cable to fit the camara for much cheaper:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160172485103

Can I just hook this wire to a 12v car battery and expect it to work right? Is a car battery more than 8amps? Can I put a 5amp fuse inline and be OK? I'm not so good at this electrical stuff and dont want to mess my camara up too bad.
Thanks,

Well judging by what I read and see in the description on ebay and Cabela's, I would say you would be allright hooking to the battery on your truck. If the camera is 12volt DC then you should be fine. The 8amp's is only the amount of current drawn from the batteries by your camera-hence the reason you go through batteries quick. That's quite a bit of current!! I would suggest a 7.5Amp inline fuse and if that doesn't hold-up then switch to a 10amp. I'm guessing that Cabela just uses an ATV Battery or something small because it's portable.

Just my 2 cents though. If it blows, PLEASE don't hold me responsible-it's just my thoughts on your question here. I think of it working like a 12volt trouble light that's all.

Thanks! Thats the way I saw it too, I just didnt want to screw anything up! We've got plenty of power unit batteries laying around all winter so I was going to hook one of them up.
Thanks again!

Awesome. I knew you guys would know! As soon as the cable shows up I'm going to give it a try. I'm also gonna have to find another battery, the one I tried charging last night didnt take a very good charge so it must be shot.....And I replaced batteries in the camara again tonight.

Thanks again!

Dale, it was me that drew that darn picture. You ever used the touch pad from a laptop to draw in paint. I had a real fine drawing up there and bam, my other finger erased it all. I didn't want the work to be in vane so I just made a better drawing

Heck ya Dale you got it goin on. use two car batteries if you want, just make sure to hook the batteries together in parallel.
