I figured I would post my concerns on this site first because everyone seems so helpful and intelligent. Ill start by saying my fuel gauge has been screwed up for about 2 years now, and I made a few more lengthy trips than I normally do since my last fill up 7 days ago. On the way to work my truck died and I got a co-worker to pull me into the parking lot. Popped the hood looked around, no leaks. I primed the filter (was fairly soft) and got it to fire then it died again. Repeat. I managed to get to the diesel pump that all the semis use and put 3 gallons in it and everything was fine. On my lunch break I decided I would check my oil. I rubbed the dipstick on a paper towel and it wasnt black but greenish yellow. First thing I thought was INJECTORS. The truck starts fine, idles fine, runs fine. No loud ticking or knocking, no smoke at idle or when driving. I filled it up full of fuel and went to my brothers shop where I changed the fuel filter and the oil. I did the old fashioned paper towell test and sure enough, a halo formed. We poured a bit of oil out of the old filter and into a cup. I swirled it around a couple times and it left a greenish yellow tint around the cup but the big puddle in the bottom was black like always. I also noticed a good amount of clear bubbles in the film. Fuel? The truck didnt have any codes at all. The oil pressure is normal. I also checked the balance rates out of curiosity in park and drive and they were any where from -0.1 to 0.4 so nothin really stuck out there to me? Return rate is all that really matters right? No body I asked could smell diesel in the oil. Ive always used rotella 15-40. The whole greenish tint in the oil has me worried. Im guessing my injectors are on their way out, or maybe a return lines leaking? It was nothing like the time we replaced my brothers injectors and we drained 5 and a half gallons of yellow diesel fuel out of oil pan. SORRY for the long post but I wanted to include every detail so noone would tell me "just change the fuel filter". Trucks no different than whats in my sig only its at 220k. First owner had the squirters done at 88k. Thanks guys.
