Hello everyone. Bought my 2007 3500 Classic Crew LB new and have no engine or trans mods. Truck now has 48k miles and sick of the crap mpg. Truck rarely gets moved without a trailer. Tow weights range from 3500 to 14000 lbs. Not looking to mod for any reason other than mpg on tow since not a DD. Also live at 5900 feet altitude if that makes any difference. Typically average 17.5 mpg empty, 7 mpg heavy tow and overall 12.5 mpg with mix of city / highway when unloaded.

Currently looking at adding airraid MXP intake, Edge Evolution CTS, BD exhaust manifold with EGT Probe for the edge gauge on driver side, Banks monster 4" exhaust, Air Lift bags with wireless adjust off attached compressor system.

I have been lurking on many sites and have seen a lot of suggestions for the EGR blocker plate, finger stick, and PCV re-route but most of what I read was not specific to the LBZ. I have also seen many posts suggesting the EFI Live as the king of tuners, and the Trans Go Jr. being essential for the longevity of the transmission.

I am not looking to create a beast and hope that by tuning the LBZ I will get more mpg, less wear and tear on the motor for duration when heavy hauling and help out with longevity. If any or all of my logic doesn't ring true I am here to listen and learn. What should I be concerned with most, since I am aware that I am starting a chain reaction by changing any stock designs beyond the expense of course.

Thanks for any help you guys / gals can provide.

Sounds like your on the right track :thumb:, if you do get EFI from one of the tuners on here the finger stick won't be necessary, nor will the air intake at that power level

It sounds like EFI is really more for guys looking to get big gains more than just small hp / torque increases. I have read that the Edge Evo tuner has the best low end tunes and are safer for longevity of motor and transmission which I why I was looking to go that route. From what I have read the stock configuration doesn't hit max hp until 50 rpm short of red line. I am looking to capitalize on getting the hp without pushing the motor or trans at those limits. Also Edge is supposed to have the ability to clear codes. Is there something the finger stick does or that EFI live does that Edge isn't at this level?

Thanks for the input.

I would contact a good EFILive tuner on here. The driveability of a custom tune is a whole lot better than a off the shelf tuner. I am going to be moving from the diablo I have now to EFILive from either idahorob or Kory and a Edge Insight for Gauges. I think this should make a good combination.

EFI is great because it can be used from everything from a guy like you or me with a majority stock truck that wants to make the truck work better for them all the way to the top hardcore sled puller or drag racers, the key is that the program the tuner makes for you with the EFILive software will be exclusively for your truck, making them able to tune it to best suit your needs If you ever get a chance to ride in a properly tuned truck it will make you a believer, it did me, the finger stick is put inline between the EGR sensor and the wire running to the ECM to effectively block the EGR code from being tripped And triggering the check engine light to come on

I would very highly recommend EFI Live. I have a near stock LLY and I will be doing EFI Live, through a reputable tuner, even though it will just be an optimized stock tune. IdahoRob is who does my tuning, and does many others on this site, but he is just one of many. I also have EFI Live on my LB7 with 5 different tunes that I can switch with my Edge Insight Monitor.
