What is a normal engine oil temp, and what would be a high.
I am installing a oil temp gauge to help with piston temp while towing and was hoping someone could tell me what is normal.
Thanx Darryl

I've been pulling alot lately with the LB7 roughly (12,000 lbs.) I can definatly tell that my oil pressure falls off by the time I get to the top of a good size hill. Mostly Adobe Summit that ones a good test since you can't keep your speed up cause all the turns. On the way down the other side I can see it come back up as the oil or Engine temp cools. I think the oil cooler cools the oil off fairely fast when there is not much load but it can't keep up to tuned motor under heavey loads for extended periods. Some of it may have alot to due to coolant temps also on a 85-95 degree day I hit about 220-225 on the coolant temp by the time I reach the top. I keep egt's between 1250 and 1350 the whole way up.

My oil temp is usually higher then my coolant temp according to the ECT reading off my insight. Cruising around 80 on the freeway is usually around 205-215, once you go up a slight incline or get on it a bit it goes up to almost 230. That's what my truck reads, before the cooler.

I'd like to put a cooler on it and keep it below 200 at all times if possible.

Who sells good engine oil coolers? I would like to put an additional one on as well if this is the case.
