I've run John Deere +50 in my truck for the last two years or so, I went to the dealer today to get oil and now they have +50 II (CJ-4 Rated) dang it

I bought it because my truck is 1000mi overdue (6K on the oil) and I want to change it. I went to get the filter at Advance and they had Castrol Heavy Duty Diesel oil in 15-40 that was CI rated. Does anyone have any experience with the Castrol Diesel oil?

I'm going to run the JD oil this change but if the Castrol oil is good I will make the change to have the peace of mind in the CI rating. Maybe I'm making too much of the CJ vs CI thing?

TX of course
A CJ-4 could quite possibly be a better oil. I would run Delvac 1300, Delo 400, or Rotella. All of then are good oils at a good price some guys have had some really good samples with Delvac.

Obviously with my stock LMM, I have to run CJ-4 rated oil. I was thrilled when JD finally came out with their Plus 50 II CJ-4 oil. From all the years using JD oils on the farm, personally I don`t think there`s anything better on the market. JD warrants the CJ-4 oil for 500 hours use when used in new JD engines with JD filters. 500 hours use in typically severe duty applications...that`s phenominal. It`s in my truck now, and I`ve seen a only a slight increase in oil pressure...like 2-3 psi when at full operating temp. Since I`m not putting many miles on her at the moment (driving a beater daily driver) it will be awhile before I can make comparisons towards the end of the change interval.

there was a lot of talk about the differences on Compd, from what i remember, CJ4 would be fine for a stock motor, a built motor would want to run a higher TBN.

Thanks for the input guys...it seems to be working fine (knock-on-wood) but I've only put about 150mi on it.

Unfortunately (while under the truck) I've found another issue I'm working through...a severe transfer case leak (no rub through hole that I've found) it appears to be coming out the weep hole in the seal that I replaced two years ago.

You can't get better oil if they sell it and use it for those hrs. and severe duty just great products from lots of research. That'll outlast Amsy by a long shot...
