Just replaced injectors and head gasket. Got it back together oil pressure gauge reads nothing and it comes up no oil pressure. Put a mechanical gauge on it, has pressure. Changed out the sending unit. Still the cluster is reading nothing with same message.

I isolated the wires out with a meter and it shows good up to connector of the instrument cluster.

Is it possible the stepper motor has went out?

Does it also give you a low oil pressure warning in the DIC? If so then it is not the stepper motor. If it is just the gauge reading low without the low oil pressure warning, then it is probably the stepper.

I used a cluster from a friends truck. Now I know it's not my cluster. His was doing the same thing. Now I guess I'm going to be chasing wires. Any other places I need to be checking?

Did you unplug the harness that comes up behind the coolant crossover/thermostat housing and forget to plug it back in or pinch the wires when you put it back together?

JoshH if your talking about the 2 bale connectors yes they are plugged up. As far as wires being pinched I can't find any.

The connector is under the black pipe that the upper rad hose attaches to, right up by the front of the drivers side valve cover. Its for the small harness that runs behind the power steering pump bracket.

Well that connector was connected. I just don't know where else to check. Guess I'm gonna try chasing wires down.

With the mechanical gauge at idle I was 65psi. At 2000 rpm around 90 psi.

I'm thinking about just putting in a mechanical gauge run into cab and run it. Would I be ok to do that even with the light in the DIC showing low oil pressure?

Is it setting a code for the oil pressure sender? Mine does that off and on. I noticed if it sets, the gauge will not read until the code is cleared or the ignition is cycled.

There's a small wiring harness that runs along the lower driver's side of the block that plugs into the oil pressure and oil level sensor as well as bolts to one of the grounds toward the front of the driver's side of the block. The wire runs up above the water pump behind the bracket that the power steering pump and A/C compressor bolt to and snakes up behind the coolant crossover that bolts to the front of each head. The wire clips into a bracket at the front of the driver's side fuel rail and connects to the main engine wiring harness very near the bale connectors. I've seen it left unplugged and I've seen the wires get pinched between the accessory bracket and the block. Since it started right after you had everything apart, I would be surprised if it is related to that harness.
