so i have about 3700 miles on my motor now. at about 2000 miles, i would occasionaly get a low oil pressure chime on the dash at idle. then it goes away. now once it reaches operating temp, it does it every time. the lowest my insight says its gotten is 16.3 psi at idle. i just did a log, it hit 8.1 for a split second, but stays around 10 psi.

when i was putting my oil pressure sensor in the block, i dropped it. so i figured that was the issue. i just put a new one in today at the cost of $105 plus oil change, and it still does it:mad: ive read minimum oil pressure is 14 psi. is that true? also heard of a guy on diesel place with the same problem. www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325176 at what psi does the chime and alert message get triggered? my driving psi's are exactly the same they always have been.

on a side note, the first week i was running my motor, it would say low oil level, but it was always fine. then it just went away. mabye bad wiring harness after build? what else would it be?

sorry for the long post and thanks for the help

Dose the oil pressure drop off and regain quickly? That to me would indicate a poor connection or wireing/ground.

could install a mechanical gauge and check it that way.

Also, when my oil level sensor came on it was because of nothing being plugged into the sensor. Might want to check the plug

Good luck

thanks, that make me feel real good. why would only my idle be affected and the rest of the rpm range be the same as of a year ago? i did an efi log to get my idle numbers, would a mechanical gauge read different? and why would it be fine for about 1500 miles, then start acting up? my brain is really racked on this. i cant think of anything else that would cause an issue

the very instant i hit the throttle, the psi jumps up to about 23 to 28 prob about 1200 rpms max at that point. just idle it drops down

Yes it would read the accurate oil pressure if your stock sender or harness it messed up.

maybe the gear could be spinning? Hot idle I'm at 27-28 psi according to my insight.

ill have to try the mechanical gauge then. that will suck if i gotta tear the front cover off. i don't see why it would be spinning, it got torqued to specs, but who knows

We had one that spun the gear on the shaft and had to have it keyed. You have to pull the motor.

Casper had the oil pump gear come loose from the factory. This was a long time ago before we got serious with the truck.

The bale connector is always a possible villian though. Blue reported low oil pressure but it was just a pin that had pushed in.

what about throwing a tech 2 on it to save a little hassle, i did that cause the lmm factory guage sux, scared me a little....

I'd imagine it would read the same as his insight and efi live right? since they're both picking up the info at the same sender.
