I have a 2002 lb7. Whenever the truck is off the oil pressure gauge rests at about 60. As soon as I turn the key to the on position the gauge pegs all the way horizontally to the right. Once the truck is on the gauge never moves. Is the problem just bad stepper motor? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you check oil pressure with a scanner or mechanical gauge?

Sounds like a stepper though. It doesn't measure pressure with no key so no reason it shouldn't be at zero.

The 01/02 have aircore motors instead of steppers like 2003 and up. My 2002 is like this. I replaced harness, had cluster rebuilt, and different pressure switch. Next thing I was going to do was try the different style of pressure switch as the motor was replaced with a reman before me at sometime so wondering if the didn't put the right switch in originally.

As said above, no steppers in an 02 cluster, it's a plane jane air core motor. It has a ground, power, and the variable wire coming from a 1 wire sender to it. It's a double sided magnet motor, 1 side is powered and grounded all the time, the other side is powered, but receives it's ground from the sender. When theres an open circuit from the sender, the oil pressure gauge goes fully over towards the 3 o clock position, as the ground from the sender is applied, the opposing force pulls it back over. Very simple design. Since yours is going to the 3 o clock position, you know it's powered, but most likely not receiving a ground signal from the sender. Unplug the sender(1 wire plug on the lower forward drivers side of the block on an angle adapter pointing up iirc), and ground the wire, turn the key on, and the gauge should read 0. If it does, then your sender is bad, if it doesn't you most likely have a wiring issue as air cores RARELY fail.

Wires on harness were chewed. Replaced harness and fixed the problem. Thankyou for the help guys.
