when running the scan tool and wanting to reset the oil life I click on the oil life reset button it comes up and gives me a little box that allows me to reset the oil life in 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 intervals.

My question is what does this mean? and if you click on it says it will make the changes pemanent, is this ok? -Jeff

its percentages, i have no idea why you would wanna reset it to anything other than 100%. default milage is 7500 miles @100%. i remember long ago on the dp there was great discussion about what determined the "change oil" light to come on. and lots said and belived that the pcm determined it by engine revolutions all stuff--------but efi has proved yet another myth wrong its milage that triggers the light. you can change the trigger milage somewhere too.

All your doing in the scan tool is resetting the oil life at this very moment to some given percentage. It is not a big deal. Set it for 100% at your next oil change and it will gradually decrease as you drive.

Parameter G0401 in the Tuning tool will allow you to change the mileage interval for oil changes.

Hope this helps.

The wording in the warning is too harsh, everyone assume you are reseting it to the chosen value for good!. that is not the situation.

The percentage counter is there because it was like 2mins of programming to add that option :)

Turn the key to on, not run, push the throttle three times to the floor with in 10 sec. of turning the key on. The oil life counter will reset to 100%.

my 02 was like that, and i hated when it would come on and my buddies would notice the bright "change oil soon" glowing in the dash, and give me shit for it. especialy when i changed it before the light came on, so i asume that was a milage reader?
