ok i'v got a problem.
my change engine oil prompt keeps coming up on my truck.
i just changed my oil about 2500 kms ago,now it comes up every time i start the truck.
if i reset it and then shut the truck off it comes back on the next time i start it.
i used amsoil 5-40 diesel oil in my oil change.
just wondering if anyone has any history of this or knows what might be up.
does the oil life run off of a sensor? or would my type of oil have something to do with it?
thanks in advance guys

No clue but who's in your avatar :D pretty certain it has nothing to do with type of oil. I know my hours meter resets everytime I reset my trip B odo.

Do you have a steering wheel controls? If not Chevy has a peddle code to reset it. Turn your truck to run posistion and push the throttle to the floor and bad 3 times. That should do it

As far as the hour meter, sometimes the trucks just reset on there own for no reason. I have not had this problem, but hear it happens quite often

I have about 168,000miles on my truck and have not had any problems with it. I also use the 5w40 oil. Unfortunaly the 'Engine Oil Life Monitor' is not a sensor. It is a computer algorythm that calculates lenght of time the engine is run, how fast, rpms and temps. It is really not something to base your changing intervals off of. This is how it was explained to me my a GM certified technician. My light never comes on, unless I forget to reset it and I change my oil every 5,000 miles.

My oil change interval has gone from well above 50% to reading 0% on numerous occasions. My hours resets when ever it feels like it.

i know the reset procedure.
pedal to the floor 3 times. even after i do that it comes on the next time i start it.
any ideas?

I know mine has been picky and don't use the peddle procedure but my Tech II. I've seen my change oil light come on then go off and then come back on before as it really didn't reset with the peddle as you can go to fast or sometimes to slow.

Most times I change my oil and don't reset the 'light' and it will come on go off come on as I described so I reset it with my Tech II.

So I'd suggest since you really don't know if it's resetting get a hold of a Tech II and reset it that way.
