Oil in fuel

Back when I had my 5.9 I would filter and put used engine oil in fuel tank after oil change, but have had second thoughts about doing it with my duramax since the common rails are such touchy systems, anyone have any thoughts?

That old Cummins is good to have around to burn the used oils from other changes if you have enough. Common rails are delicate compared to P pump/ain't worth trashin' a CP3 to save 15 bucks. Filtered enough and mixed thin with diesel it would probably get by.

I do it every fill up. I have barrels of it that I have collected over time. Some folks here may remember back in 05 the thread I did at the other forum. "Diesel Place". I run my truck on a 2K mile trip on nothing but used motor oil, gear lube, trans fluid, and hydraulic oil. It ran well for most the trip however the mixture was thick and I had to run my lift pump the whole time. I noticed the black smoke it started belching towards the end of the trip. I found it was coking the injectors. A quick hard run and a good shot of water/meth spray inside for a good steam clean helped. I run a bottle of Sea foam with a regular tank of fuel and it cleared them up. I now only put in a gallon or so per tank full. I only recommend to most a quart per fill up to keep it well lubed and to help keep the injector tips clean (use only at your own risk like I do). All my oils are run through several 2mic CAT filters before it ever gets to the engine.

The time I used synthetic oil there was a lot of white smoke. Under heavier loads it would burn better and more complete. But just driving around town or light throttle down the highway, there was some white smoke from it not burning so good. Beware. I've run many, many different oils. The only stuff I avoid is anything that weighs over .900 specific gravity (some thinner spindle oils and the such). The better stuff I've run was the cheapest ATF I could find (believe it or not).

Think of it this way. Would you run diesel fuel in your motor instead of motor oil? Well that's what were doing with the injection pump and injectors. The CP3 has a crank in it, pistons and valves. The injectors have super high speed moving pistons (pins) in them that are valves as well. Why not give them some lube too? Do you think that the auto manufactures want your diesels working for a long long time? If they did, then their revenue would drop. Just calling it what it is.

My 2 cents and 9 years of running it in my Dmax.
