Oil Drain Plug

The stealer was the last one to change my oil and they put the plug on so damn tight. No matter what me and my Dad tried that plug wouldn't even move. I was looking forward to changing my oil, had everything ready to go. It goes in tommorow morning, they can change the oil. As soon as I get home I'm planning on breaking the drain plug loose, and just snugging it up, this is ridiculous.

The dealer did my last change to and the plug was super tight and rounded off I bought a new plug and had to use a 1/2 drive breaker bar to get the old one out

Take it in and just have them re-torque it to specs.

tell them they did the change and put it on way too tight, let them know that an impact is not necessary to put it on.

Tell them to find a new LOaF tech too.

that should be enough to just get them to loosen it a bit lol

just an fyi the torq spec is something like 67 foot lbs... and thats not a typo so yea. they are on there really damn tight

I brought mine to the dealer to have the FIRST oil change for free and the guy that did it left it finger tight. Talk about a mad MOFO after I just drove it home 90 miles from the dealer and found a puddle of fresh engine oil on the driveway the next morning .

Never the less it only dropped about 1 quart in that distance but the entire undercarraige was soaked . Made one little phonecall and a rollback showed up about an hour later to pick it up and have it cleaned and thoroughly checked out.

I definately do all maintenance myself now.

Oh yeah, when i got it back, some damn fool at the dealership i guess didn't realize he was driving a dually and rubbed the right rear fender on a pole. Guess what, one more phonecall and the rollback showed up again . Turns out the same cat that changed my oil rubbed the fender, He is employed elsewhere now, was like the third customer vehicle he damaged.

That dealer will not touch another vehicle of mine EVER!!

you can remove a bolt torqued at 67ft./lbs with a 3/8 drive ratchet. I'm willing to bet its cranked to at least 90-120ft./lbs................

i removed a bolt tq'ed to 285ft/lbs with a 1/2 drive and no extension.... .... yes i still have all my knuckles. no there was no new BIG scars from that one.

as far as oil drain plug goes, mine is in at least 100ft/lbs and it still wont stop dripping. brand new plug too. one oil change on it. i tq wrenched it to be sure it was on well enough after it went back in. leaves about 2 drops everytime truck is parked.

just turn the truck on for a minute to let it warm up to get the plug off, just watch out for the oil:cussing:

Thanks guys, I got the stealer to change the oil this morning. There was a new LOF tech today.

They are supposed to be tight, 67-68 foot lbs is correct. Also make sure the correct washer is on. Lots of places like to replace the copper one with plastic. Bad idea, the plastic melts and the plug comes loose...you know the rest..

I have a fumoto valve. No more tight ass oil drain plugs or oil running down my arm. Makes for good changes int he winter cause I can do it when the oil is still warm and not get scalded and it flows oh so nice.

BUT CHECK IT! I guess I was retarded last time I did mine and I didnt close my valve all the way.... drove home from teh shop and there was a great quart of oil on teh ground under my truck!

Im also a lil paranoid of someone draining my oil on me one day when parked.... but thats just cuz people love to F with my stuff

I went through this same thing. The dealer left mine on so damn tight, but when I finally got it off I installed a Fumoto valve. Nice and clean from now on...

I have a fumoto also Mitch they work great
my 01 has a femco valve its the new upgraded fumoto

The first thing I did was change the oil and add the Fumoto's.
