I have some smoked clutches in my C2 clutch pack. Do some C1 clutch packs have pits in them like some of mine do?

From ATSG "Lubricate C3 clutch piston with a small amount
of TransJelä, and install into the case bore, as
shown in Figure 76"
Where can I get "TransJelä"? Would petro-jelly work just the same?
The pictures in the ATSG show that the little hole in the piston goes torwards the top of the tranny. Does it have to lign up with anything special?

Well, I cant seem to get the main shaft seated like it should be. Any suggestions? This is where the transgo kit mentions not messing up some lube holes....what lube holes need to be ligned up?

I really think its worse getting the tranny in and out of the truck.
I had to re-do my C3,4,and 5's after talking to MikeL, but it was only an extra couple of hours for that. AND, I'm a slow worker! I didnt have my steels indexed just right like they should be, and I didnt get the main shaft seated the first time. I took Mike's advice and made a jig to hold the main shaft in place when I flipped the tranny over and then it was a piece of cake. I guess final judgment will be wether it works or not...

My 5's were just OK. I left them in, just had to take them out to get to C4's. C2, C3, and C4 all had AT LEAST half of the frictions completely wasted.
I just put it together to my best ability the first time, then talked to MikeL and he advised me to go back and make sure all my steels were lined up the same way (so all the slots in the center of the steels were lined up the same) and that the hole from the piston at the 12:00 position was lined up with holes in the steels. I didnt do that the first time, but it made a lot of sense afterword.
