Winter cover? The truck runs less efficiently when the engine is cold. The sooner it warms up, the better your mileage will be. I know my instant fuel mileage is terrible until the engine starts warming up, then it goes back to normal.

I'm pretty sure we're on winter fuel here in Boise, but I haven't noticed any difference in mileage yet. My commute is 30 minutes each way, so the truck is warm for most of it, which may be why.

You could always try adding a degree of timing in the cruise range and see what that does.

i havent found a winter cover for my 99 chevy yet... i have blocked the rad off with a 18"x24" peice of plexiglass stuck between the CAC and RAD .. gives me another 5-10* from 180 with out to 190-195 with.. 1-2* more timing i get timing rattle and that gets annoying!

i wonder about increaseing the pilot timeing... if i read it right ( havent messed with it) im only doing 2*

This is making me wonder if here is the loss of MPG? Restricted air flow. I wonder if the loss of air flow is making the rad. fan work harder? Unless you are running elect. fans.... then never mind.

If your truck is already getting up to 180, you probably don't need to block the airflow. That is where mine runs in the summer unless I have a BIG trailer behind it. 195 means you are on the 2nd thermostat, and it is almost running too hot, IMO.

Messing with pilot timing might be beneficial. I am starting to play with it on mine, but I don't understand the effects well enough to give a good recommendation on how to adjust it.

OEM spec hot dmax is 250* very hot is 255* hotest i have had these was 215-220* pulling a 5% at 26,000lb (fancy gap NC) at 68mph

last week had the chane to run in 30* temps without the plexiglass i was lucky to get 175-180* cruising down the road with a rolling weight of ~22,000lb put the plexiglass in and im up around 185-190 if i stopped for 5 minutes(example park left runing at a rest area to go in come out) i go from 190 to 145* in 30* weather w/o plexiglass with it it take about 30 mintues to drop 45* at idle..
here is picture of said load.. actually was starting to snow in trenton nj when i picked it up headed to lima oh

pilot injection serves two functions..
soften the actual combustion noise think 12v 5.9 rattle it has no pilot injection same with a mechanical 6.5/6.2
and pre heat the air to create a better burn of the main injection for the most anything less then 75% throttle lbz in stock for run to 100% throttle

You can have a custom winter cover made. I had mine done at a place that makes Tents. It's a material that won't let air through, not sure what it is though. Get some snap buttons and put them on. I also use an exhaust brake. Helps truck to warm up to 122* before it cuts off. In the cold up here, without the Brake it will only get warmed up to about 50* or 60*. But it helps alot. And it helps to slow down with a load.
