I'm sure alot of you have seen this test already but figured I'd post it for others. I myself find it interesting, but not very suprising.

I got into a heated debate with a guy on Facebook calling me out because i said a stock filter will always filter better than an aftermarket k&n or similar....Needless to say the guy went on for awhile about how good k&n and banks are and how much better they flow and filter than OEM. I agreed that just about any filter will flow more than oem...but nothing will filter better...He argued it again....posted the below link and never heard from him again.

The k&n came in near dead last on almost all tests except for flow. Took the cake on that one. When you can see right through the filter media, of course that thing is going to flow well.

"Compared to the AC delco, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt."

Cotton gauze filters are just a screen to keep the birds out :thumb:

I always run foam filters on bikes and quads, never liked k&n style filters for off road use. BUT that's why they make the filter wrap.

I run a K&N on my gasser, and the lack of filtration is what has prevented me from tossing a CAI on my truck.

Would really love that extra 1-2 mpg bump though...

Anyone done any testing to see if the aftermarket filters flow worse with a filter sock?

Over the years wrenching professionally I have noticed the filter socks for aftermarket CAI systems have kept the filter completely clean, as in I never saw any dirt get passed the sock. But would it flow worse...

Yep, that test was done by a guy named SPICER years ago over at the DieselPlace forum. He is the same guy who put together the additive lubricity study. Both were paid for with member donations, and both were great tests.
