Is the odometer affected by tire size? How exactly does the odometer calculate distance? From a reference point inside the hub assembly?

Yes, I would guess speed sensor in the tcase IIRC the hub is just for the ABS. If your speedo is on then your odometer should be close. Mine is a little off though.
