I know the dodge NV4500 was bad about backing the 5th gear nut off. Is there a reason the Chevy NV4500 wasn't known to do it too? Different design? Not enough torque?

I thought I read somewhere that it was externally balanced or something like that and that made it less susceptible. Dont know for sure though. I can say that my 2wd GM nv4500 has a big external balancer at the yoke where the driveshaft bolts on.

I changed over a chevy nvg 4500 to run behind a cummins in a suburban I had. I found out real quick about the 5th gear nut and then found out that the 32 spline shafts that gm uses won't hold up to a cummins. Two shafts in 10,000 miles. Finally I upgraded to a fully splined main shaft and 23 spline input for the np 205 and all was good. I never had any issues with my nvg 4500 that was behind a built 6.5 for 300k
