Since i'll have the motor completely apart, i was wanting to hone the nozzles. Is this worth doing and what does it consist of?

If you want to do this send the whole injector to someone with the right flow benches so they are tested and balanced properly. There are only a few places in the country that can do this. Make sure they are flowed with fuel, not air. For a daily driver you don't want to be more than 40% over. That is alot. It is worth doing but only if done right.

Why's that? I know a few people with 60% overs that are daily drivers. I have 100% over in my daily driver - no smoke at idle and completely drivable. The bigger you go the more tuning you need to get them right but it also gives you more room to tune down the road.

One of the things Casper is noted for is running 798rwhp uncorrected at 4400rpm with stock injectors.

Now I have returned to experimenting with injectors again, and are running SoCal pieces because he supplies a flow sheet with them. The 100% overs idle like stock sticks, but at this point, I can't say whether or not they will fit my needs.

The weakest cylinder is the one that fails first, so having injectors balanced like the factory ones are is going help survive big power.

Is this harder on the motor?

The biggest issue with injectors being hard on a motor is when you get a set that isn't balanced. You tune the truck to a certain power level and don't know that you have one cylinder taking a much harder beating. If you are running a well balanced set of injectors with the right tuning than 600hp will be just as hard on the motor if they are stock or 60% injectors. With the bigger injectors you will be running less PW and timing to get the same fuel in and power out.

Good info fellas. When you guys say 40% or 60% injectors are these just injectors with honed nozzles or are they different all together? Sorry for lack of info here.:(

If you get them through Guy as we are encouraging he will have the tips made larger then put them back on the injectors and have them tested as an assembly with fuel at real life pressures. Many places will only test the tips for equal flow at very low pressures - put those tips back on a used set of injectors and who knows what you end up with for actual flow at real life pressures. So the work is done on the tips but then they need to be tested as an assembly to be sure they are good.

I was saying that from the prospective that with more fuel you need more air and in a DD most people don't run enough turbo to take advantage of the additional fuel. This in turn will make for enough smoke that it will be annoying to the people that he will be driving around and maybe to him. It does also take away some of the fuel mileage. I know that to make big power you need to take advantage of every way possible. It's just my opinion, that doesn't make it the gospel.

With tuning you can get rid of the smoke just because I run 100% over injectors doesn't mean all my tunes push 100% more fuel than stock. Like I said the bigger you go the more tuning it takes to get them to not smoke, but it can be done.

I DD with 60% overs and they're fine. I didn't get the injector as an assembly tested because I didn't have the spare cash lying around but I should have. Give Jim at Extrude Hone a call.
