Now comes the fun part, though. Figuring out a way to get them back here without spending a fortune. Road trip!

That's exactly the reason a lot of Gen Y and beyond have been waiting to have kids (compared to x and before). Schits expensive... But some parents aren't willing to ride the struggle bus to make things work out (not saying your daughter isnt). Wife and I work opposite shifts and I've been on nights for 12yrs passing on bids to day shift because it enabled us to only pay someone 1 day a week to watch our son (sucks for the wife big time, its almost like being a single mom with 2 kids). At the time both of our parents were still employed, 5 years later the FIL retired and helps watch kids when needed. My parents retired, but being they live 30min away they only keep my son overnight once in a while on Fridays.

More or less the older people want to enjoy retirement and either one of us has the kids 24/7. I don't push it like it's an issue because my parents were in a similar situation (grandparents on dad's side were gone before we were even born)

I've got married friends that are single income, they gave up keeping up with the Jones long time ago, ran across a guy at a customer he and his wife purposely work part time and homeschool.

One of my sisters just squeezed out baby #6 and is a stay at home mom/wife.

As a single guy never married no kids, at 42 its kinda depressing I don't have kids, the avg single woman I come across I barely want to be friends with much less anything more, their attitude and core value just flat suck

We are doing a double thanks giving dinner staggered apart. We are having some relatives coming to California in a little over a week that won't be around for thanks giving day. So we decided to do a big family dinner with them here. Then on actual thanks giving day we will do a smaller, with the remaining family, dinner.

General plan, got a "friend giving" weekend prior, weekend of, go to my uncle's place for food then spend most the weekend on my shop

44 here and I agree... Some of the dumbass things they say, do, or believe they are Entitled to.......

1 told me she is a Professional MOM... Well, That only works for 18 years and once those baby dad checks stop coming, there is only so much financial support you can get... So guess who had to get a JOB...

Tom, that makes sense. It can be tough without that added support So I can understand that.

I am watching a friend deal with something similar. He has to travel for work so that support is very valuable.

IMO, everyone needs some sort of help when raising kids nowadays. Been trying to convince the SIL that its not a "failure" if you make a choice that ends up not working. He's hung up on that.

I have many young families on my route that have one primary breadwinner, with the other parent stay-at-home, or part-time working. These people dont just have one child, either. 4, 5, even 6+ kid families are common in the area again. I am amazed and admiring of them for being able to do it, bc I cant figure out how they are. They all remind me of my family when I was growing up.

I've worked with a few guys that are single income or their wife just does odd job stuff. One thing is that you've got a hell of an earned income credit with 4+ dependents. And in the case of two for sure, you've got the older generation dieing off or moving to a retirement home, and the family sells / basically gives the house away to the younger ones. I've stopped trying to reconcile with people's life styles because most are in debt past their eyeballs

Yeah some times it can be tuff to accept. Hopefully he will be able to over come that and accept it.

I voted already. Dropped my ballet off at City Hall last week

Interesting, voting in person in California is no different than dropping off a ballot in a drop box. During the mid terms, I went in to my local voting center to "vote in person". But all it was is a computer that printed the exact same ballet that is mailed to us. Then you walk it over to the exact same drop box and put it in.

For you people in other states, is voting in person different? I keep hearing about it's safer, or somehow better. But where I'm at, it's identical to dropping off your mail in ballet that you filled in at home

My wife and I voted in person on Saturday. I said I wanted to use the computer and they asked if I had my ballot. I said yes and said we can dispose of it for you. I said do you shred it? They said it goes in this bag and then it is properly disposed of. I said no I'll put it in my shredder

At my local poling place, they verified my ID to make sure I was a registered voter. Then they printed a blank ballot that I took to a voting booth. In the booth was a terminal in which I inserted my blank ballot. Once it was inserted, the screen showed the available options for the various choices for my region. Once I made all my selections, it had me go through and verify everything was correct before it spit my ballot back out at me with all my choices printed on the ballot along with a bunch of barcodes. I then took my ballot over to another machine that read the ballot and kept the hard copy.

Had a co-worker try to present ID and they wouldn't even look at it, telling him it was now illegal to verify ID in California.
