So I got myself in a predicament here. I have a master sgt I work with that drags a nova with a built 396 BB without nitrous it pulls high 12's and I bet him if he didn't use nitrous by April I could smoke him out on the track (jokingly of course) and he got real serious and wants to do it. And me being me I can't pass it up. So I figure build my trans and replace the smokey injectors along with efi live along with tie rod sleeves, I won't be embarrassed as badly as I would without. Haha time to piss the wife off!

You might need more than that. My ccsb ran 13.3 with a built trans and efi with some other bolt ons. I do have a 6" lift lowered to 4" with 33s. I'm sure there's guys that have hit 12s but not until I got trac bars and a bigger turbo did I finally hit 12s. Weight reduction will be your friend.

I'm at stock heigh with 32's right now and I'm stationed on camp Pendleton right now so I was thinking about going up to inglewood and seeing mike about building the trans. I'm going to be hauling everything I own across country this spring so it'll need to be done with the amount of power that it will hopefully have by then. As far as weight reduction I was going to take out all the seats but the drivers and my roof rack of course. This is just for shits and giggles but I still want to make him sweat a little!

get a hogged out turbo horn, remove intake air heater and get a lift pump. Make sure you get a good tune from one of our vendors here. No reason you can't run low to mid 12's.

It should at least be close. Traction bars and a centerlink brace should be on your list too if you can afford it. Will help a ton off the line and putting the power to the ground.:woott:

Hate to be the one to say it but he's gonna walk your ass. I'm betting that 396 on motor gets that car through the traps a little faster than a high 12. Not to mention he has probably made many more passes in that car than you have your truck.

All the stuff above, plus 40 overs, Upgraded turbo (4094, S366, etc), and water meth and I'd think it would be real close!

I have to agree. Even if your truck could run as fast as his Nova after your build, have you ever dragged it? He's probably a more experienced drag racer and he'll win. Better get some practice!!

tough call here, JustinD had made 12.6x passes with a ecsb stock turbo on 285s or possibly 315's with built trans, lift pump, tune.. i think with those mods and a good suspension setup and a decent amount of weight loss it'd be close. did anybody recommend tie rod sleeve and pitman/idler arm braces as well?

What has he done to his Nova since August? If he knows you're doing everything you can to beat him, It would be my guess that he isn't going to show up with the same set up that ran high 12's. You're probably going to have to run quite a bit better than that to win. But, I could be wrong. Good luck. :thumb:
