What are normal actual temps(according to a display or reader, not the dash guage) for the LB7 while towing? I have a stock cooling system in my BURB, but my grill area is smaller than a GMT-800 trucks and just want to know what normal temps should run. Empty it rarely sees more than 180-182, but towing my travel trailer at 70 she got up to 215 on me today in 90 degree heat. Fan clutch never kicked in fully, only partially came in one time in stop and go driving. I know my 6.5 at 210 was hot, but wasn't sure about the LB7.

mine will see 225-230 on big hills in 100+ degree heat.

I think you are fine the Duramax is 1000 times more robust than the 6.5. Temps that would fry a 6.5 is nothing for a Duramax

Mine wouldn't break 215. That's a 9500lb truck with a 7500lb trailer, 38" tires, stock gears, 7% grade 4miles long and blown headgaskets. Not too shabby.... the fan was blowing full bore but it never got hotter than 215.

I need to double chack my gauge to makee sure it's accurate, but I was bumping 215 running 70 in 90 degree heat with the air going. The fan has never fully kicked in on me though, just partially engaged a few times in traffic. Just a bit concerned as my grill opening is pretty small compared to a GMT-800's. I know a stock guage will show 210-215 up to about 235 actual engine temps, so that's why i asked about actual temps from a scanner read-out. I know my 3.42 gears don't help as it is only turning about 1950 at 70, but they sure are nice when running empty.

That temp reading is what my edge CTS is reading, not the dash guage. My fan is usually fully engaged once the Ect goes over 200* though. It runs quite a bit during the summer here since it is over 100* everyday, sometimes getting up to 110 or higher.

Dunno how bad the smaller grilled affects your cooling but if the fan still hasn't fully engaged, that might be something to check. Just my opinion though.

She stays as cool as can be in traffic, it's once I get over 65 the temp starts climbing up a bit. It's got a new severe duty fan clutch on it as I was worried about it not engaging, but it has never kicked on going down the road, only come on a few times in traffic. I'm going to hook up my V2 and see what it says and compare that to my guage and see wat the differrence is.
