Is this mod worth cutting into my truck ? My options are to do this or spend $1100 on a lift kit for the lbz. Anyone run into rust issues after a few years ?

If you do it right and take your time I think it's worth if if your trying to fit bigger wheels/ tires. Just have to think it through. Also no rust up here in western Washington.

How big of a wheel/tire combo are you wanting to do?

I live in WI and have done the NorCal mod in 2015 and driven my truck for 2 years after that before it became a warm weather only toy. It has rusted but I wouldn't say its better or worse from this mod. When you're done apply some sealing paint/primer and you should be fine.

I just did this mod to my lml to fit 20x12 -44 with 305/55r20 rubber yesterday. My question is what do those that want to run mudflaps or longjohns do to make them fit? Can I get away with a self tapper in the back corner to hold them back or is there a risk of poking through or hitting something inside the cab?

You’re fine, that’s what I do

Yup. I generally use a 1/2 long self tapping Phillips screw with the bigger head to keep my fender liner in place. Just don’t go crazy with length and you’ll be fine

Kinda partial to the name :thumb:, but we’ve got thousands of people who have done the mod. In the last 6yrs I can’t say that we’ve had a single call from anybody who has had any issues with the mod once done correctly.

I hemmed and hawed at doing the norcal mod to my truck for the first 2 years I had it. Its been 3 years since I did it. I wish I did it day 1. The 2 years I rubbed fenders before the mod created more rust/destruction than the mod itself.
