Since there's some real smart people here, I was hoping on some input on a situation I'm in. I have a Harley with custom paint. It sat for the past 4-5 years without use. Last year when I went to get it going, I went to drain the tank and found that the inner paint is coming off. I tried draining and adapting a hose to my shop vac to clean it out and thought it worked. So I guess I have to pull tanks and clean somehow. Here's my question. What will remove the paint and rust without damaging exterior paint? I asked a local shop, and he didn't want to recommend anything and be liable for paint. Any input would be appreciated.

Remove tanks add water and some small nuts and washers and shake. Not so hard you dent from the inside out mind you but just enough to make whats left release. Then go to a parts store and get some gas tank sealer. Old timers used to use it on tractors all the time. You pour it in and then rotate the tank until it coats the entire inner surface and reseals it. Be sure and remove the valves or youll never get it out.

For bikes that we run through our shop we use a product called kreem its fuel tank liner and tank prep. Its like $ 54 for enough to treat a 5 gal tank
