I purchased an aditional license from the EFI webpage and using version 8 I read the ECM tune and saved it. Then I opened it in version 7.5 and edited the tune. But once I try loading it back onto the ECM using version 8 all I get is no license slot availible. Even though I check licenses-vins and the vin is there! Has anyone had this problem? If someone is availible to call please let me know. Thank you!

You were emailed your license activation code.

You need to add that activation to your FlashScan/PC, to do so;

1) Connect your FlashScan V2 cable to your PC or laptop.
2) Start the EFILive Scan and Tune application.
3) Click the F7: Licenses button in the left-hand pane.
4) Click the F3: VINs button in the left-hand pane.
5) Enter (Activation Code) in the Activation Code: field.
6) Enter 5 (Total License Number) in the License Number: field.
7) Click the Activate VIN License button.

You should now have a license slot available.
You can read/edit/save files without a license.
When you go to flash the vehicle, your you will be asked to 'license' the vehicle using that available license slot.

If you are still having issues, you will need to make sure you are running our latest release. V8, firmware, and V7 all received updates in July. You will need to make sure you are running the latest versions for me to offer you further assistance as the license validation processes changed with our June software releases.

Thank you for the reply. I followed those steps off the email instruction sent to me with the activation code. I saved the vin (in my case # 5 ) and it shows when I click on licenses and then vins it is there. Do I need to save/enter it somewhere else I order to flash? Thanks

Provided your license screen lists license 5 with a green tick and says Available Available you've added the license and it's available for use.

Those fields will get updated to the controller identifying information (as you would already have visible for your used licenses in slots 1-4) DURING the FLASH process.

To flash your modified tune you either need to program your FlashScan for standalone flashing (using the BBX -> Tune menu selection), program the device, then flash the vehicle following the V2 menu selections, or via pass through, connecting your PC to FlashScan and your vehicle using the F3 Tune option from the main menu (NOT THE F3: Tune option in the F5: BBX menu.) You'll need to select either the Cal-Flash or Full-Flash option.

Well that depends.

If we are talking about Duramax in general the rule of thumb is if you're changing OS (including installing a DSP file, or removing a DSP file for a standard OS) you need to full flash.

If you are just changing the calibration data (changing a few parameters, but the underlying OS remains the same) then you only need a cal flash.

On certain controllers, such as Cummins, cal-flashing does not exist.

Ok so what I did wrong is I put in my activation code without having the V2 plugged in. Is there anyway to fix that mistake? I tried plugging it in and re-entering the code but it didn't work
