Hello I'm new to this but I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I'm looking to buy a 2008 Chevrolet 2500 with 170,000kms on it. It has a 3 in lift and 33 inch tires. I have taken it for two test drives, first one went good, today I went to take it for the 2nd and take it to a shop to get them to look it over, but it left the lot and stopped at a red light, I went to go and it just revved like it was in neutral, it also made a clunk sound when shifting. I shifted into reverse and it was fine, I shifted into drive again and nothing, so I backed up into the lots again. The sales man got in and shifted from reverse to drive a few times and every time it made a slight clunk going into drive. Also the engine light came on when this happened. They pulled the pan on the tranny and it was empty, they said the fluids have all been changed shortly ago. And the test drives were only a couple days apart, and it worked fine the first time and there is no fluid on the ground where it was parked? Does this sound real or just a dealer line to hide a larger issue.

My LBZ leaked from the cooler lines and one real cold morning (-12) it went into limp mode (P0700 & another code I don't remember) and I didn't have any gears for a few minutes even when I tried clearing the codes with my edge they wouldn't clear. Eventually it gave me 3rd gear and I limped home. It was about 2 quarts low, cleared the codes with my v2 and it's been fine since.

So where did the tranny fluid go? Because after the first test drive I looked under the truck and did not see any fluid leaks, or on the ground. And it has been nice here right around 0 even at night. And when it goes into limp mode the engine light would come on? And in limp mode reverse would work fine?

Before the first test drive I did yes and looked full. I just talked the to dealer, he said they put a new pan gasket on and filled the tranny fluid up, and has no clue how it went low, he said they just serviced and went through the truck so it was all new fluid. And I was the only one who drove it but there is nothing leaking and no puddles on the ground. I'm going to take it for a good drive tomorrow and take to to a shop to put it on the hoist and look closer. Something just doesn't seem right how fluid disappears.
