Just wanted to see everyones thoughts on the new Titan with the v8 Cummins. From what Ive read and watched it seems like a nice engine package. Cummins developed it from scratch and it uses a CGI block like the LML. Looks like a wide motor, but everything is kept fairly compact. No vgt turbo either. It appears to be some type of sequential unit that is wastegated. It sits in the valley, but cant be seen from the top. The cam is chain driven. Its rated at 310/555, so its like a stock LB7. It should scoot the Titan around pretty good. Nissan claims the XD is for people that need to haul heavier loads, but dont need a 3/4 ton. It will be interesting to see where this motor goes as far as the aftermarket. Im not a fan of how the new Titan looks, but I see this engine combo doing very well.

Wonder how the fuel economy is going to be. Don't see why they had to go to a v8. Towing capacity is 12,300.

The interior is nice but no thanks. It costs as much as a full size Denali.

I'm not a fan of the turbo setup, they did too much screwing around trying for a quick spool. I think a single VGT conversion would be worth while (Cummins has done this, for military / marine testing). Aluminum heads with only 4 bolts per cylinder, not sure how gaskets will hold up in real world conditions. Everything is chain driven on that engine, cp3 and oil pump included. I think it'll turn out like the 6L Fords but with common rail.

I like the new trucks, but a buddy had a Titan recently and it had too many electrical gremlins. Maybe they've come a long way in the past few years? Also like the trans and diff combo they went with.

It looks like a miniature dodge. Ugly. You'de think weighing less than 8K pounds it would get more than 15mpg. Read car and driver review on it and they drove it 588 miles and got 15mpg.

Ya I had hopes for it till I read the specs on it a little closer and heard the mileage is only averaging 18-22mpg as per a few owners on a couple different sites. I understand now why Dodge passed on it. The ecodiesel may make less torque and hp but it still tows as good or better than a gasser with much better mileage. Which was Dodge's intent I believe. It's also 1000 lbs lighter than a Pro-4x Titan Xd

Every Mileage test I have seen for the XD has been poor. Averages have been between 18-22. I would pay 10K more for a similarly optioned XD than I paid for my Jeep Ecodiesel Limited, and get much worse mileage. Because gas is so cheap and half-tons get much better mileage now than 10 years ago, I have considered trading my Jeep for a 1500 Denali. I get 26-30mpg now at .40 cents more than a denali getting 18-22mpg, and have a higher projected 3yr maintenance cost with the Eco I drove a 2.8 Colorado and I hated it. Not worth the money.

I work at a dodge dealership, and the Eco diesel's have really taken off. It's a good combo IMO, and they get good fuel mileage realistically.

I've still got a hankering for an ecodiesel. I browse classifieds regularly looking for a used big horn or lonestar (I want all the gadgets inside and the better HID headlights :D ). If I can ever find one for the right money, I'm going into debt.

I love my jeep, it has a ton of torque and rides perfectly in any condition. The short wheelbase makes snow driving a little weird, but I also never spent the money on real snow tires for it. I have towed over 7000lbs with it in our hills with a pintle and it handled it great. I have been hearing dozens of complaints from ram eco owners only about bad engines and transmissions in stock form with low mileage on them. I don't want to be one of them, nor do I want to be paying for emissions work in another year or two. I have been looking at an alternative anyhow because I could really use a bed more than a more compact luxury suv. Although I can tell you a duramax short block and an allison will fit in the back together and it takes it like a champ haha

The XD is gutless. I was shocked how low on power it is.

My '03 Dodge was factory rated 305/555, nearly identical, and would run circles around the XD.

Couple that with less than stellar ratings, it's a swing and a miss by Nissan.

Damn, it's that bad? I figured this would be a home run! No wonder why GM/Ford has been so reluctant on releasing theirs. Looks like the 1/2 ton diesel market will be a hard nut to crack. I think it's ugly as hell, but so is the new f150 and people are buying them let and right.

You could get a half ton diesel chevy in the 80s, and it would pull the mileage of the xd from what you guys are saying. Yeah the 6.2 was gutless but you think over 30 years later they could top mileage of an old gutless mechanical diesel. Even if u say a 6.2 got about 16 and the xd gets 18 that's horrible, there's guys that pull over 20 out of the 80s 1\2 ton burbs with no turbo.

Edit and emissions has killed them i know but still lol

Being 1000lbs heavier definitely hurts the payload.

I feel like they made a mistake marketing it in between a 1/2 and 3/4 ton. That seems to be a pretty specific market, and I really don't think they're going to sell that well. Having a price point near or at an equally equipped 3/4 ton with less capability and similar mileage is horrible.

That's the problem. They claim it as an "in-between" vehicle. Now logically, when I read that I figure more than a 1/2 ton, but not as much as a 3/4 ton. Problem is, it's as heavy as a 3/4 ton, tow ratings are a couple hundred higher than Ford and GM 1/2 tons (keep in mind, max tow rating of 12,038lbs is the base model S 4x4, the premium Platinum Reserve is 10,608lbs), payload is less than 2k, and it gets similar mileage and has less power than a 1/2 ton gasser, while costing significantly more. The "in-between" part is pricing, it's right in the middle of a 1/2 and 3/4.

I've been very open to the XD, it's a new Cummins so logically I was excited being a Cummins fan, and it's disappointing. The styling isn't great, but not bad in person. The interior IS top-notch though, I'll give Nissan that. It's pretty nice, on-par with anything else on the market.

But for now, Ram and GM will continue to be my top picks.
