I had bought a new I believe it was an 89 Ford F-250 with a 7.3 international in it. It was a great motor built to work. Budget restrictions drive me to gas but now I am back after 27 years with the ordering of a new Silverado with the duramax. I have heard this is a dependable very strong motor. I will send in a pic when I get it in Sept. excited to be part of this forum and looking forward to getting answers to all my questions

They say to take it easy the first 500 then start with some weight in it. Don't let it idle for more than 5 minutes and easy on the brakes and acceleration. Any other advice? Heard not completely broke in until 30,000 miles

X2, just drive it how you plan to use it. When I built my motor, started it and idled it for a couple minutes to check for leaks and obvious issues. Cooled it down, then a "spirited" drive in the mountains. Next morning, hooked up 16,000 lbs and went up and down a 6% grade to really seat the rings and verify the cooling system was up to snuff.

GM starts every new Duramax on a dyno before it even goes into the truck. It is broken in and ready before you even get it. The part GM wants you to break in is the rear end, but I'm not convinced it needs any special break-in.

Excellent will do thanks for the advice. Getting excited at 60 still a kid at heart. I am trading in a "16" 3/4 ton 6.0 for this beast. Hope it's worth the extra money for the diesel
