I'm looking at an LB7 off of craigslist and wanted to get some opinions on what you think about the truck and its value. Here is the link. http://brunswick.craigslist.org/cto/3731280626.html

Also I'm not that knowledge able about the 6.6 motors yet, but hope to be by reading alot of post on here. Meanwhile is there anything I should be concerned with, buying a truck with 200k+ miles? The owner was very upfront and said he's done most of the replacing of the front end that needed to be only thing left was the ball joints. As it goes for the motor sounds like he's got a little work done and has a PPE programmer.

What would be your recommendations if any when/if I were to buy this truck mechanically?

Thanks and look forward to being a chevy man:D

check the balance rates on the injectors (should have been replaced at least once by now). Also, on the test drive get on it at 55mph and force it to shift from 5th to 4th under a load to see if the trans limps

It's going to have injector problems, all LB7's do. Also the price seems pretty high to me.

Ummm, no they Don't. I have 120k on my 03 and injectors are fine, balance rates have been checked since 08. Now oth, glowplugs are a different story. Look, alot of LB7's had/have injector problems, doesn't mean the one the OP is looking at will have them. I would ask the seller if and when the injectors were replaced, if they ever were, also inquire about the glowplugs.

If he's has ARP studs, it sounds like he's done some work to that truck, get all the info possible, then post your findings...:D

I'm glad you've made it to a 120K, trust me your injectors will go out. I've had experience with quite a few LB7's and it's true some make it well over 100K before they go, but they do go. Now if that truck has had the injectors replaced then it's probably a better deal. IMHO it's still overpriced.

Pay the 200 bucks and have it inspected at the local dealership and get a print out of possible needs and a print out of the injector rates hopefully you have a good diesel tech at your local dealer.its a nice truck but seller is asking alot for a 200k truck,i know it has extras but that stuff never makes the truck worth any more really.

X2 have the dealer look at it, if he did head studs theres a possibility that he has done other engine work and/or injectors

and injectors don't always go in every truck, a dealer i worked at had an 02 truck for a parts runner since it was new and it has 287k on it now, all original

Thank you for the helpful tips and advice:thumb:. If I'm not mistaken he told me the injectors were recently replaced back at the end of last year. However I think I will take it to a shop to have them inspect it for $200 just to be on the safe side.

The LP is not what I'm paying, and I agree he was asking a little much. He came down on his price.

This has been helpful and insightful. Thank you. :hello:

I payed 14k for an 04.5 with 255k just as a reference. Still has original injectors by the way, but it is an LLY which makes a difference...

I bought mine with 78k miles stock for 15k but its an extra cab. It is flawless too. Id wait for a lower mileage truck, stock and not abused. Lb7 is a good motor regardless of injectors. Just something to look out for.

x2 ^ everyone shoots down the lb7 right away because of injectors...imo its just an extremely expensive maintenance item and if taken care of properly can go hundreds of thousands of miles.

on another note i paid about 19k for mine but it was a bone stock fully loaded crewcab from a one owner old man with 99k that had every single receipt from the day it was new.

Yea, I worked him down to 15k, plus its loaded with every option and upgraded a few things, not that they hold value but only to the buyer. I here the LLY is a great motor.

Sounds like you got a steal for your truck, but it may be also that you live in AZ. On the east cost it seems to be a little more at least where I live. But I appreciate the advise.

I couldn't agree more!

Not wanted I wanted to hear. :(

Another comment I wasn't wanting to hear! Given that this is just a weekend truck, I have a company vehicle. How expensive is maintenance on these trucks? I guess that should have been a question I asked before I got to deep into looking.

NOT a bad price. :thumb:

just for another reference. back in 2010, i bought my bone stock 2001 lb7 ext cab gmc seirra slt which means fully loaded for 15.5grand with 85k on it and they just replaced all 8 injectors with newer style bosch remans and a brand new bosch cp3 injections pump. hardly no rust and everything in excellent shape. so id say 15 grand for 03 CCSB fully loaded with 200k is still bit high. i know hes got some extras but those dont always add alot of value. kbb.com says 13.4 grand in excellent condition and their usually bit high. like said above i wait for lower mileage truck bone stock then u can do exactly what u want to it and know how and what was done.

Thank you for the advise. I think I may just wait

Interesting, the gentleman I talked to was older, so I don't know.
