2004 lb7. I just put a new gm water pump on and now I get a whine from 2000 and up rpms. Is it just the gears wearing in or do I need to replace it again? Frustrating!

When I put the housing on the new pump I spun it by hand and the impeller was not hitting the housing. I’ve decided this gm pump is coming off tomorrow to be sent back and I’ll put a pump from the local auto parts store on it. I’m guessing it’ll be a gates. Done ordering parts online. At least local guy is easy to get parts warrantied.

Last one I heard of on here that had a whine chewed all the gears up in the front end. Wasn’t pretty.
Thanks for the advice guys. I parked it immediately after I posted. I just swapped my brand new ac delco out with a new gates and no more whine. Thankfully the ac delco pump didn’t damage my cam gear.
