New truck/trailer law in PA.

Apparently the state (PA) is sending info out to inspection stations and such of a new law they are trying to pass. They say there are too many accidents involving rear tire blow outs while towing a trailer. So they are pushing a law that any trailer with 2 or more axles must be pulled by a dually. I guess they are going with the # of axles instead of weight for ease of enforcement. I have heard this now from 2 different stations and was still skeptical on them being able to do it. Anyone else know anybody that has got this info or heard anything about?

well that would suck. that means i'd need a dually to pull my little 2 horse trailer over the boarder. fully loaded I dont think its more than 5000 lbs back there. wonder how much the fine is gonna be for that one

Haven't heard about it yet, but I'll stay tuned. I only have 2 srw vehicles, but I know alot of people running 7700gvw trailers behind srw trucks, and some running 10k trailers.

That would be a pain in the a$$. If the truck is rated for it from the factory then they should be fine you would think. I work in PA and WV, I dont tow much there but still inconvenient.

I think the main problem i see on the roads is half ton trucks pulling big 5th wheel campers and other trailers way over their capabilities. If i had to guess thats where most of the accidents come from. A 3/4 or 1 ton truck with proper load range E tires shouldnt be part of the law. On top of it all this isnt exactly the best day and age for small buisness owners and people that use their truck as part of their lively hood to have a unneeded expense of getting another truck just to do their day to day routines. But there isnt anything set in stone yet so i wont get to far ahead of myself.

Wow thats gonna suck. I have a 2 axled flat-bed trailer. Its heavy, but i know my limits, and the trucks. I will be askin my inspection guy on this one.

I haven't heard anything yet but it sounds like something this state would do. Idiots. Lets punish everyone for a few peoples stupid behavior. I would like to know how may of these so called blowouts are on a truck/trailer with the correct tire for the weight being pulled? I'm guessing none. There is going to be a LOT of unhappy folk.

Many boat trailers are two axle, even though they are fairly light loaded.

It's like punishing people for wanting 4 tires on their trailer for safety.

WOW this would suck for alot of people, im glad i bought a dually for towing. good friend of mine has a inspection lic i ask him today.

At one time I heard they were instituting a law that limited the GVW of the trailer to less than that of the truck, to prevent pulling a 8000lb trailer with a 1/2 ton truck. That seemed more safety oriented. This new thing would be plain stupid.

Of course after pulling my 34ft 13,000gvw trailer with my 1/2 ton pickup, I can understand why. It pushes the truck around like a toy.

I think what is really needed is a Breathylizer tool that can measure the Driver's IQ. Most trailer accidents are caused by a loose nut on the steering wheel.

It be alright if it went off of the weight of the trailer. Mines capable of hauling 12,000. I have it licensed for 10,000. Would I feel comfortable pulling 12? Not around here. To many hills. It should go off of what the trailer is licensed for not just because it has 2 axles.

its the idiots in the 1/2 tons screwing it up for everyone else my buisness partner tried doing it that way and after a friend of mine got killed czuse of a 1/2 ton truck towing a car carrier with a 70's camaro on it jacknifed and well not getting into details. i make sure everythign if done right
