New Truck Order Process

So I ordered a new truck on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. So far the dealer has not been able to give me an order number so I can't contact GM for the status of the build. Does anybody have any experience as to how long it takes to receive the order number? Should the dealer have it as soon as they place the order? I don't want to bug the dealer but the thing is if I order a $25 T-Shirt online I get a tracking number almost immediately but if I order a nearly $70,000 truck its a pain in the ass.

Also, can anyone share their total order to delivery time for trucks ordered recently this year? I've heard anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks.

Can't comment on GM but I know there for a while it was 10-12 weeks with ford and almost 6-8 weeks before they would give you a build date. The dealer should at least be able to give you a time frame though.

I got the order number and contacted GMC through their chat box on their main website. They did not give me a time frame but said to allow 6-8 weeks. Dealer told me definitely before labor day I should have the truck. It's going to be a long 2 to 3 months...

Nope it will be a 2016. No one knows a thing about the 2017s just rumors. Guess we'll all find out together. Order cut off date for a 2016 is July 21.

My '16 Denali was ordered, built and delivered in about 6 weeks. Ordered on 01/20; built the week of 02/15; shipped to Baltimore the week of 02/22 then up to the dealer the week of 02/29. I took delivery on 03/07.

The fiancee wasn't happy because I told her it would be 10-12 weeks so she wasn't planning on a truck payment until May. I've had a lot of making up to do ...

Well ordered on July 6 and today, 14 days later, truck is still at 1100 with no TPW yet. Is this bad or normal iceman5?

It's yet to be proven and I don't need first generation issues like people got with the 2011s. If it turns out to be a reliable combination after a few years I'll probably upgrade again.

Well found out that dealer doesn't have allocation and probably won't soon so found a local dealer, talked to the GSM today about numbers which we agreed in and ended up ordering the truck again today. Already confirmed with GMC that they have the order in the system and it should move along quickly since they have allocation and sell a lot of HD trucks.

Order is already at production code 2000. Moving along nicely.

So my order which was ordered July 6th is now at production code 3100 with a target production week of 8/15/16. Will be interesting to see which truck shows up first.
