Hello everyone, my name is Braden and I recently bought a 2001 LB7 ext cab 2500HD. So far I have done a Pro Flo 4" turbo-back exhaust, Inglewood (Mike L) trans cooler and a K&N intake system. I have been looking into a PPE boost valve and a tuner. (mainly EFI Live) I have heard many good things about the EFI tuner and many negative about the other such as Bully Dog, but to each their own. Any tips, opinions, facts etc. would be greatly appreciated. Just FYI, I am not looking to drag race the truck or do anything crazy, I just want a bit more RELIABLE AND SAFE power and a little bit more smoke would be nice..good smoke though, I know that smoke is generally the sign of a problem such as high EGTs or rich/lean fuel/air mix. I also know that someone is bound to think "if you bought a diesel to blow smoke, go return it", I didnt buy my truck to blow smoke at old ladies all day lol I just would like for it to roll coal when I want it to here and there, just like a diesel should. (in my opinion). Once again, any tips or advice would be awesome!

Install a airdog fuel system to help save your injectors among other benefits, the boost valve and get efi-live tuning from the vendor of your choice, Idahorob is one of, if not the best but he doesn't do smoke tunes and youre not going to want a relatively smokey max effort tune on the weak 5 speed Allison unless you can afford to build it. I would do a pre-tuned ecm with a dsp-5 switch because that's the easiest and cheapest unless youre close to a good shop.

Bustedknucles- I'm not looking to do anything huge..I want smaller tunes so that my stock LB7 can handle it. I know I'll have to upgrade a few things here and there but I'm not tryin to do twins or race trans or anything. Just a little extra power for a little more fun and a bit more control over the performance of the truck. I'll just go for rides in 02dirty's truck if I want crazy power haha. I have a good shop near by that will do an EFI tune and dsp-5 for about $550, but thats without the scan tool. However, my buddys have the scan tools and all the software if I ever need it. Thanks for the input!
