Hello all,
Just to start off I have been in the Diesel seen for many years. Here is the catch I started out with a 92 Chevy 1-ton 4x4 6.5 365.00 miles later I bought a 96-97 Furds 1-ton crew-cabs 4x4s 7.3. Then went to Dodges the mighty 5.9 Cummins till last year. Now I am soon to be a PROUD Owner of a Duramax Crew-Cab 4x4 LOADED up.

I will need all the help I can get on making this thing run Strong. Well stronger you guys no what I am saying. I no what these things can do I have seen these run and pull! Thanks J,C

I would try and find an LBZ or late LLY, 06 was the first year for the 6 speed Alli. They are all great motors no doubt, you will be impressed with any year D-Max

01-05 have the ability to install a 5 position switch and EFI Live tune so that you can change power levels on the fly.

06+ have the 6 speed transmission, a stonger CP3 (injection pump), stonger rods, better flowing intake runners, slightly stronger transmission (in stock form), but you can NOT install a 5 position switch and must shut down and plug in the laptop each time you want to load a different tune. They also have weaker pistons that are more prone to cracking once the power is turned up.

07.5+ will be the new body style and interior and is basically an 06 with more emissions added.

If you plan to modify it to the point of voiding the warranty I would recommend you save money by buying an older, higher mileage truck and put the money you save into the modifications.

Welcome

I have quite a few LBZs running around on our tuning that has dynoed over 530 rwhp and backed it up at the track - none of them have had an issue yet. However the pistons cracking seems to be a luck of the draw type of thing. Some people are blaming it on the tuning and/or high timing, while others believe it is more based on the quality of pistons you got in your motor. There have been LBZs over 700hp on stock motor without any issues, but far more have broken with less power.

Which year depends on your preferences, some people gotta have the 6 speed, others gotta have switch on the fly tuning - it's all up to you. Any Duramax is a great choice in my book - they have have their benefits.
