New Times- Pathetic Short Times

Well, the good news first, Jim Mullaly (slimjimm17) went 11.97 @ 113mph today on a stock-internal LB7 engine, truck had a race weight of 6800 lbs. Had traction issues all day, but finally on the last pass of the day clicked off a 1.7x 60' and broke into the 11s.

My best pass of the day was a 12.78 @ 107.5mph. 60' on this was 1.898. I went 12.99 before on my stock charger, and short times were always in the 1.8s. Since then I added a twin turbo kit and Fabtech traction bars. Here are my 60's on the day.

1.898
2.273
2.022
2.013
2.018
2.224
2.211
1.917

Needless to say, I was not a very happy camper. If I left the line with any more than 6psi of boost, I would either spin all four tires or get terrible wheel hop in the front. T-bars were all the way down, and tires set to 45psi. I'd like to try to blame the condition of the track, but not sure that is a good excuse, just weird because I've never had this problem before.

So any suggestions on improving short times would be appreciated. Also, if I could get that into the 1.7s, with a MPH of 107 as I had, what do you think I could see for a 1/4 mile time?

Lower the psi up front to 35 , what kind of shocks are you using?

I am running the Monroe Gas-Magnum shocks, brand new only about 3k miles on them.

Also, what wheels do you have? Which front end support?

20x10 XD Hoss with 285/50/20 rubber. I have Cognito tie-rod sleeves as well as pitman/idler arm supports. Again, I have run this setup before and not had problems with my short times like this.

Probably alot of it is the track... I've cut 1.75 with the tires at 78 psi front 74 rear on a track that's prepped well.

I only run 28lbs on my front tires and 22lbs on my rears. 305 50 20 nitto 420s on 20x9 xd spys. I cut 1.7 1.8's all night the other night with those pressures. The most i ever left the line with was 12lbs. The best short times, i was only leaving with 8-9 psi. Got a pair of drag radials and a 75 shot of giggle gas i'm going to try next time out. Should get me close or into the 11's.

Thanks for letting me know you were going to the track haha. Last time I was up with 60 or so psi in my 33s I was cutting 1.8s pretty consistently. Was it cold out?

Haha, I posted in the Truck Day at NE Dragway thread that we were going to head up for Chevy Fest! I kind of assumed everyone would be going up to Fryeburg on Sunday anyways.

The air temp was probably 60* max, so it was about as good as it gets I would say.

I was just thinking maybe the cool temps hurt traction but 60 seems like it would be perfect. Was anyone else having traction issues?

27 psi on the front, 25 psi on the back.

Clamp de overload leaf.

Spool it to 17-20 psi depending on how much traction you got...

Jim was having some traction issues, although not as bad as me, but was also launching at 20+ psi:eek:. We were the only two diesels there launching boosted in 4x4, so hard to say really.

Gotcha, tought to compare when you're the only two haha. I'm going to have to make it up before the cold sets in. Really disappointed that the weather didn't hold for the truck day up there. I'm curious to see my 60ft times with the pyos and smaller tires. I haven't been up at all since my injectors were done

Track prep is huge, esp at TnT they tend not to put as much time and stuff into it. I know at my local track one lane will hook a lot better than the other, can see over .2 diffences (over 3 runs in each lane). By the end of the night every built car is waiting in line for one lane while the kids are overjoyed thinking they found the express lane on the other side!
