The big horsepower Duramaxes have been ripping out the splines on the C2 hub and P2 planetary because of tie up ( 2 gears at once for a millisecond.) We have not been able to stop this damage till now. Ron at Suncoast has designed a 2 piece planet with bolt on hub to rectify this. We are also pressing on a bushing on the C2 hub to act as a girdle. We are hoping this will solve the problem.
The neat the about Ron's planet design is the hub is a bolt on and is billet. If the planet fails, it will only require a new hub to be bolted in instead of buying a 1,000.00 planet.
McRat will recieve the first prototype along with Guy at SoCal Diesel so they can try and break them. Stay tuned.:D

So Mike the cost upfront is going to be big ,but in the end it should save us?
Can you PM me a cost and can I install this myself or do I need any special tools

Trans will have to come apart as there will be 3 pieces to replace. It will be on an exchange basis because we need planet cores. We prefer to have bad ones in exchange. Price is very reasonable. I will post it in my vendor section.

Blue had torn one of those up at about 400 passes IIRC. If you are going to alot of racing, or you have big power or nitrous, you will eventually need this. If you saw the factory piece you'd see why. It's thin and balloons over time, then fails. They just plain ass wear out.

Looks good mike.

Although, dumb question...if we completely eliminate all of the tie ups, would we not need this? Is it a stronger 'fix' so that when a minor tie up DOES occur, it slips the clutches a bit instead of having hard parts be the fusable link??

Slipping the clutches a bit will not help. I have another idea that I have been toying with to help solve the tie up and am going to work on it next.
Wait till you guys see my new cosmetic upgrade for our trucks. You're going to love it. Prototype is built and it's going into fitting stage.:D

yet another random question :) what would happen if we messed around with backfill pressure on the clutchpakcs? Isnt it only a couple psi? I would think decreasing it would be bad because maybe then clutches could drag or apply to early, but what about if we increased backfill pressure? Would that allow us to apply the clutches in a less "wishy washy" fashion and give us better control of when exactly the clutch applies?

What would playing with the gain valves do? WOudlnt messing around with them allow the trim valves to act differently?

Im probably talking out of my ass because theres still many things about this trans I dont understand..

I thought about bringing the backfill to about 15psi but then you would have to do some serious engineering in the res tof the trans to keep the clutches from partialy applying when they shouldn't.
Playing with the gain valves is dangerous as it will cause the trim valves to move too quickly. ATS does this with their Copilot. They restrict and block reverse fluid from blocking the gain valves thereby allowing them to move freely and raise pressure. Bill Kondolay at DTT was boring bigger holes in the gain valves with destructive results to the planets. The shifts were violent up and down. Got Juice lost about 15 or 20 Alli's with that setup and always blamed it on his monster 550 hp twins.
I think I may have the answer to the tie up and will have Ron machine up my part. since we have not been able to fix the TCM i will have to go into the hydraulics to try and fix it. Between that and the beefed up planet and hub we should be able to keep the Alli in the Duramax instead of going with the duraflite. I just refuse to put a Dodge trans in a Duramax.

And thats why your everyones favorite tranny guy:D, I was a little confused by your first post but is this new planet a fix, or just does it make the inevitable destruction easier and cheaper to fix?

We are hoping that it's a fix, but don't know for sure. We do know that it will take more to break this than a stock one. If it proves that it is not a fix, it will be cheaper to repair.
