Picked up this gem over the weekend. 84 k5. It's going to be the recipient of my refreshed and tweaked 6.2 Detroit. It was a factory 6.2 anyway so that makes it easy. Body is remarkably straight, no dents bigger than a nickel and almost totally rust free. Plan is to try my hand at an auto tranny rebuild with the 700r4, maybe do an add a leaf lift, trim the fenders and lower bump stops enough to fit skinny 38" tires, Lincoln lock the rear end and possibly a paint job. Should be a fun truck to beat on

Kansas when I am home
I had a 700 built that survived 500 horse small blocks and dozens of mud pits and tug a trucks... They don't suck.

I love those old trucks man good luck and keep us posted.

Even turbo'd and with more fuel being fed to it I don't think my old 6.2 is going to put out close to 300hp. Let alone 500hp. I want to keep the 700r4 for overdrive because I will drive it on the highway quite a bit. I've seen a well built 700r take some abuse

Yeah I had a 99 k2500 I put 38s on with stock gears. I tuned the tranny with efi to not shift to 4th and lock the converter in 3rd. Worked great :D

I will eventually regear this one though with lockers

Thanks guys. Been thinking about it today some and I'm considering using a mechanical turbo 6.5 engine instead of retrofitting the 6.2 with a bunch of 6.5 parts (turbo, manifold(s), injectors and possibly serpentine belt system). By the time I source all those parts I could probably buy a complete 6.5. Only thing I don't know is will my mechanical db2 pump bolt up in place of the ds pump used in later 6.5s?
