I own a 2004.5 2500HD. 6 inch fabtech lift running 35s. New to diesels and trucks in general. Finally was able to get one. As of now I am in upstate NY stationed at FT Drum. I have a bunch of items I would love to get done to my truck and hopefully will be able to before an upcoming deployment. The rest will have to wait till after. I guess I will be heading first to suspension forum because I need some help there kinda quick. Thanks and I look forward to talking with ya'll

SO I figured I would post this question in the new members forum because usually you get flamed for asking simple ones like this in the other topic pages. As I said I'm new to diesels and trucks in general. The trailor button on the end of the shifter for an automatic (coming off the steering) is that overdrive? or just for towing? I am moving my wife back to NC soon before deployment and will be towing about 5000LBS. should I use this? anything else to do before I tow for about 1000 miles?

Always use your tow/haul in town when pulling a load, it's way easier on your trans. Once you get on the highway as long as you're not going up and down hills and it's not jumping in and out of overdrive all the time then you can cut the tow/haul off to get a little better fuel mileage
