I just purchased a new 09 duramax and have some questions. I have only owned chevys before but they had the 6.0 gas in them. I pull a 36' fifth wheeel toy hauler and am looking for any info you can give me about anything. I have been around duramax's before and drove them but never had to learn about them. Some of my questions are changing the air filter to a k&n, whether or not to switch to synthetics, running additives, or any other advice you would have for me. Thank you looking forward to getting all the info I can

Stay away from oil filters (K&N) in a turbo charged or supercharged vehicle... They pull the cleaning oil in the intake tract and give the MAP Sensor a hard time, give it inaccurate readings and stuff. and thats something I don't want to mess up, I believe a Map for pretty much any car is around $500s

Sorry, but it is the MAF sensor that can get gummed up by an over oiled filter. Myself and MANY others have been running oiled filters on these trucks for years with no problems. K&N isn't my choice though.

OMA - your truck's factory intake is just fine and a filter or even complete intake upgrade wouldn't give you much if anything. An exhaust and tune would be your best add ons to bump up power and mileage. For a work and tow truck I would recommend synthetic and personally like Schaeffer's and AmsOil. Diesel Kleen is a good additive.

X2 then after that you would want to look into upgrading your trans.

I have a 09 and have agreed to stay with the stock air filter after talking with several people that know d-max's , I went with a PPE tuner on setting# 3 and went with the 5" MBRP cat back s/s and happy with the change and add'd power

Honestly I got my intake because I liked it better than the stock one, plus I didn't want to keep buying filters all the time. But I knew that the performance gains would be none to minimal just keep that in mind. K&N is ok but not my first choice. Exhaust and tuner would be good starting points too.

I just had to change my entire intake, due to a K&N filter collapsing and causeing my intake to blowup. I would avoid K&N, oil gauze are fine I have never had an issue for many years in all our trucks. Except the LBZ blown intake.
