"New" Injector Cleaning Idea

so there is a guy on DF with a LLY, said he had an injector sticking at +5-6. Pulled it out, soaked it over night in that GM upper engine cleaner that people use to "clean" injectors with the truck running and all.

He said after he soaked it over night he had the injector flow tested and it came back completely in spec, said that the fluid it soaked in was completely black!

If you guys don't see any harm being done by doing this I might try it with about 4 of mine. Thanks

I find it hard to be skeptical if he had it bench tested afterwards.

and please don't flame me.
I am only asking about this method for injectors reading above zero, I understand that injectors below zero i.e. -3 are flowing TOO much fuel, but those that are + (3 out of my 4 are) are not flowing enough. Therefore it makes sense that this method could really break down some of the carbon that is blocking the tips etc.

Yeah I agree. For 40 bucks worth of cleaner it sure beats at least 400 (now) and more down the road for injectors.

I'm not asking if this is some sort of "miracle cure"

It just makes sense that this heavy duty detergent could break down the carbon that is "clogging" the tips.

If anyone thinks this is a bad idea for any reason I would love to hear it. If not I think I am going to give it a whirl.

It makes sense in my situation, my rates aren't great (1 out of spec, and 3 more that are +2-3ish) and I don't get a lot of smoke on acceleration, but it seems to be getting weaker and weaker.
I have had a run of bad fuel, damn truck stop, and have 100gals worth of DK in the tank, but I don't think that's going to cut the kind of deposits that have formed.

The same stuff that you add to a gallon of fuel and let run out? It may work great, but I have doubts. If it was so much better than why wouldn't GM say to do that in the service steps?

Yeah I'm leaning towards giving this here a whirl.

A GM master technician just said he sees no problem with it.

So what I am going to do is run the cleaner through the fuel system with the truck running. Then see what that does. Then I will pull the 3-4 injectors that are farthest from 0 and soak them overnight at the very least. Then package them up and send them off to have them bench tested.

Who would you guys recommend to flow test these??? Exergy, extrude hone, etc???? Anyone near Atlanta GA that would be good?

and yes it is the same stuff you add to a gallon of fuel.

I don't know, like I said I'm thinking it would only work for injectors with + values. And since it's primarily LB7's that have injector failures it would be an enormous hassle to do all this, have them tested, etc. when they fail for different reasons than LBZ sticks do.

I'm also thinking that not many people have tried it before, and perhaps that GM likes to make money on labor and injector replacements... just an idea.

bump

I've heard lots of people say they've pulled injectors and they've been "coked"
I'm thinking that my dumb ass who ran 2 stroke oil for a time may have caused this situation

Just wanting to see if you guys think this is a good idea, I know most of the best and smartest duramax techs are on this site

Sorry for post ho'ing it up so much, just really trying to get this figured out. So there is guy not far from me that tests sticks

Just found out this guy's shop uses a MAKTEST injector testing unit.

Can anyone verify that this unit is quality and that it will work for my truck??
