Hello Folks,

New here and hoping to learn enough to help Dad with his "new to him" 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, 4x4, Duramax. I have no experience with these trucks, been a Cummins guy for the last 10 years but Dad has to do things his way, sticking with a brand, and then ask me for help to get it to run like he wants. No bashing the Cummins please.

His truck has just over 23,000 miles on it, has one previous owner, is bone stock and getting just over 15 mpg unloaded. He wants over 20 but I am having trouble figuring out how to get him there for a reasonable cost.

I'll keep reading and post in the appropriate forums when I have questions. And can someone tell me what engine is the truck? I see letter descriptions I don't know yet...

Thanks.

Paul

You won't find much Cummins bashing around here, unless you run around with tow mirrors flipped up and extended in ghost trailer mode  couple guys on here even have a Cummins. But the first thing he will have to do is catch that stock exhaust on a stump and replace it with something a little more hollow and efficient, then get a good efi tune in it and it should be close to 20mpg

Thanks for the welcomes.

I'm in St. Augustine, Dad and his truck are in Leesburg.

LMM motor, thanks. That will help navigate some of these threads.

Love my Cummins, 230+k miles, no issues, 20~21 mpg... The Silverado will be getting work done to it too. Intake, exhaust and tune. Only problem I have right now is the tune. My local go-to guy isn't doing Duamax that much any more. He was using the mini maxx tuners and apparently the price of them went sky high. I'll search here to see what I can do and find to get the fuel economy where it should be.

Thanks again for the welcomes.

Don't waste your money on the intake, the stock LMM intake is PLENTY good enough for 90% of the LMM's out there. Ditch the stock exhaust, put a blocker plate in it, and a basic EFILIVE tune and 20 is easily obtaineable. I've got a tune that I've sent to a few peopel now, and every person with it has reported over 20MPG driving at 65-70 on the highway. The best I've heard back was from one person getting 23 with it running 65-68.
