Hello all long time reader, i just recently bought a 05 lly with 104k miles. Truck has ATS stage 5 trans with ATS co-pilot danville performance 68mm stg2r (danville tunes) stock fuel system egr block off plate, cal tracs 3410 yukon locker in rear, 2inch drop shackles with over load removed, ridetech bags in rear. Love the truck. I do have one problem i was hoping for some input on towing our camper trans is getting a little hot 235-240 bigger cooler and deep pan? Possibly add the tap shifter ? Any help appriciated

Welcome! I grew up in Ohio, town called Canfield. We're in Canon City, CO right now on our way to Ohio as we speak to see friends & family across the country. First thing to check with trans is to make sure it isn't over full. Fully hot on level ground, the dip should read slightly under the full mark. Doesn't hurt to change the trans spin-on filter and make sure it has the ring magnet on the base. Could also have a plugged cooler line from shedding clutch material or bad torque converter but check the easy stuff first. Mine runs about 190-200 max pulling heavy up grades on hot days with no extra cooler or anything.

Thanks for the reply, im down in southern ohio! i checked the fluid level cold and hot both checked out ok replaced spin on filter with ac Delco unsure of the ring magnate the fluid didnt look or smell burnt what is the best way to check to see if its plugged? Thanks again!

Pretty sure on the deep pan you should run fluid a little under the cold mark, due to fluid expansion when it warms up. And a built trans builds heat, especially a purple one. Be gentle on that purple piece it you want it to last.

Welcome from Zanesville area!

Your best bet is to flush the factory cooler and see what comes out, and possibly upgrade to a bigger one if you don't find anything suspicious. Do you tow on a smaller tune with the copilot off?

I do tow with a tow tune, i have tried both ways copilot on and off and also on a lower setting while copilot is on. It dosent seem to affect the temp much at all. Im towing right around 9600lbs

Deep pan does nothing, clean your cooling stack and flush, youd be surprized how much crapp gets in the coolers and in between them...

Your really not that far off from normal temps though, built trans trucks run higher line pressure so the temps go up. You pulling grades or flat ground? How your using it makes a huge diffrrence in what is normal...

Its a little of both, grade and flat ground when pulling a grade ill see 240 245, flat ground it stays right around 230 but once it heats up to 240 or so it never cools back off it will stay right there untill i stop for a while driving with no load it runs about 210

How are you reading the temps?

Where are you? Whats the ambient temps when it heats up?
Im reading the temps off the guage in the cluster. The ambient temp out side have been in the high 80s to the mid 90s

Those are the current temps after driving a roughly 12 miles to work this morning. Ill be pulling the camper again saturday ill take some more pictures to show you where its running under load.
I cleaned the trans cooler and radiator last night to see if that will help. Thanks again for all the replies

I had an ats "stage 5" for years, had it back to ats several times with no luck cooling it. I'm pretty sure I wasn't alone either. Wait till you take it to the track, good for about 3 passes, and your done. I was actually saving to have a different trans swapped in when I sold the truck..hopefully yours can be remedied..:thumb:

Thats what has me stumped i can do 7 or 8 passes at the dirt drags and it will get up to 210 at most but towing is a totally different story it heats up and stays there
