Hey guys and gals! I just bought my first Duramax to pull my horses. Its a 2002 4x4 automatic with 217,000 miles on it. I paid 6500 fro it so I think I got a good deal. Its nice and clean and came with a toll box/fuel cell. The only problems I have with it is these codes. P0980, P0700 and P0540. The ABS and brake light is also on as well as the check engine. The man I bought it from said they had been on for a few months but he never had anything checked because the truck runs fine. Do these codes need immediate attention? Also how many miles can I expect to get from a 6.6 ltr diesel?

They were red with a scanner from autozone. I did google them but I had trouble finding out what to replace.

Intake Air (IA) Heater Feedback Circuit = P0540
Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination = p0700
Shift Solenoid 3 (SS3) Control Circuit High = p0980

Can anybody tell me what needs to be replaced?

I think that's a good deal.

Did you clear them and see if they come back?

Check your brake fluid and the ground cable under the drivers side.

They used a code reader and it may not be accurate. GM doesn't list those codes.
Have a Tech 2 hooked up and find out what's really going on.

Your best bet is to actually take it to a shop that specializes in Diesel engines and have them give it a going through with a good scanner. Or directly to GM. It's worth the couple hundred bucks you might spend just to know what's really going on. The mechanic with the scanner can clear the codes out. Then watch for what codes come back and you have a better idea of what is really going on.

Welcome to the forum and the duramax world. What's your location? Maybe there's a forum member/ vendor close by and you can have them check it out.

I live in Lafayette Louisiana. Anyone know a good mechanic around here? Also anyone have some advise how to get a million miles out of one of these trucks? It had the heads replaced at 170k due to a leaking head gasket and the injectors were just replaced. I'm just woundering if there are any mods to insure longevity you guys can tell me about. Also what is a good scanner I can buy for this truck?

The trucks stock are built to last but like with any vehicle keep up on maintenance and don't dog the truck. As for a scanner im not sure but if you plan on a programmer go with efi live they will act as a scanner also.
