Checking in. Thanks duramaxdiesels forums for guding me through the hunt for a clean used truck. Turned up being a lot harder than I thought and I spent quite a bit of time to find truck that was worth a flip in my price range.

I tow a race car and an HPDE car around the southeast on an open trailer. Thought that I could get by with a half-ton F150. After all, that F150 looked HUGE and substantial next to the Frontier I was retiring. Well, one rebuilt tranny later, a new custom driveshaft (Ford thought non-replaceable u-joints were a good idea,) and that whole mod motor sparkplug thing convinced me otherwise.

That thing felt like it was hurting towing ~5000lbs with maybe 400lbs of cargo in the bed. A three hour tow would wear me out.

Towing with my buddy's F-250 was a world of difference. Hauled all the way down to Sebring, FL and didn't break a sweat. 14 hours one-way. Opened my eyes.

Ended up with a super clean '05 GMC 2500HD CCSB 4x4. Paid $17k. Now we wait and see if I got a good un.

Thanks! :thumb:

Obligatory pic. Mods are going to consist of a new fuel filter, aux input and a tailgate cap until my wallet recovers for a week or two. Hauling to Barber in a couple weeks. Looking forward to stress free towing.

Welcome to DD! I've been building my old LB7 up for towing duties also. Tons of good help from the members here. (Except for a couple guys...):hello:

Well then welcome neighbor. Maryville here.

You need to get a DD.com sticker and put it on your truck. All the cool kids are doing it.

I work in Maryville, so I'm sure I'll run into you.

As a diesel FNG, what are three things I need to do (buy, inspect or replace) this weekend?

Been exercising the search function. Looks like I'm going to be stocking up on 2-stroke oil.

Check for harness rub above the alternator, oil level in transfer case and pump rub, and I'd go ahead and service it unless you have documentation of when it was done
