Checking in. Thanks duramaxdiesels forums for guding me through the hunt for a clean used truck. Turned up being a lot harder than I thought and I spent quite a bit of time to find truck that was worth a flip in my price range.
I tow a race car and an HPDE car around the southeast on an open trailer. Thought that I could get by with a half-ton F150. After all, that F150 looked HUGE and substantial next to the Frontier I was retiring. Well, one rebuilt tranny later, a new custom driveshaft (Ford thought non-replaceable u-joints were a good idea,) and that whole mod motor sparkplug thing convinced me otherwise.
That thing felt like it was hurting towing ~5000lbs with maybe 400lbs of cargo in the bed. A three hour tow would wear me out.
Towing with my buddy's F-250 was a world of difference. Hauled all the way down to Sebring, FL and didn't break a sweat. 14 hours one-way. Opened my eyes.
Ended up with a super clean '05 GMC 2500HD CCSB 4x4. Paid $17k. Now we wait and see if I got a good un.
Thanks! :thumb:
