No, interesting though.

I think they penalize the 4 wheels because when somebody succeeds at getting a good 3 or 4 link and 4 wheel to work together (with the converter), and they will, 4 wheel will beat big slicks and 2 wheel.:) In my meaningless humble opinion, new one IMMHO huh?

Nobody, that i can see, is challenging the converter/suspension yet.

Anybody rich enough or brave enough to use a brake? You can get 1500 lbs of torque... about the same as a pro mod no?

What do i know, i never raced a diesel, i should sit and listen.

The driver's meeting vote said "keep the rules the same" for 2008 basically, or so I was told. I didn't attend the meeting because I was busy racing. Stupid to have meetings DURING racing, but not surprising.

The rules will most likely be adjusted on a truck-by-truck basis, and a race-by-race basis to achieve the desired outcome.

I was told TTS and TS Performance signed on as DHRA sponsors for 2008 recently. Perhaps the two are related. Both shops wanted the index removed.

it still seems to be a good change IMO, at least the no index part of it. I'll have to think some more about the 2wd and 4wd being separate.

With big shots of drugs, glass bodies, and concrete blocks, even 5500 lb trucks will need parachutes by the end of the year which is 150mph. They will not be allowed to run at all tracks if they are 4x4 as some NHRA tracks limit 4x4's to 10.00.

By upping the ante to 8.50 safety equipment, removing any rule that requires the trucks to be streetable, they are going to keep the number of entries low, and by allowing drugs and concrete/ether engines, they will guarantee high mortality rates, so lots of BYE runs.

Something you must understand is that the truck drivers voted for the index to keep the mortality level in check. I was not allowed to vote in 2006, and both Kat and I did not vote in 2007. The same folk who are crying to remove the index today are the same that cried FOR PUTTING IN THE INDEX a year earlier because they could not keep up with Stuckey. Now that they can, they berate anyone who sided with them last year.

Basically you have a group that wants to be guaranteed winning before the season even starts by getting rules targetted to help their trucks specifically, and if that does not work, they have special rules made for their trucks at the track to give them an advantage.

Watch for more special rules to crop up during to season to assist certain trucks, and more special rules made up to ban others during the year.

I believe they are going to allow computerized launch control for certain drivers who do not want to learn to launch a turbo diesel.

I think they could save alot of money just playing video games in a hotel room, and keep hitting reset until they win, but that's just me.

Just out of curiosity, what is the fastest 4wd running right now-anywhere?
How many 4wd's are close to breaking into the 9's next year that are members in the DHRA?

Are they splitting the DHRA into street legal and full-on drag truck divisions?

I believe there are two 4wds in the 9s. Buck in a Duramax and the Smith's (whether anyone wants to hear it or not, they are good genuine people as far as I know them) in their "concrete/ether" Cummins Dodge. The Dodge being the faster of the two somewhere in the 9.8s or 9.7s IIRC.

Smith was here at Beech Bend a couple weekends ago and they announced he broke the 4 wheel drive record with a 9.75 at 139. It's a fast truck but they can't keep it between the ditches so to speak. He came a foot from the wall in the right lane on a pass at beech bend and I think out of five runs he only got one off and it was the 9.75.

I have been watching the Smith Dodge from a distance with interest. It appears he goes/pulls left from the line, perhaps he has a set up issue. When he figures that out and get's comfortable leaving hard.... he will be faster.

Just my opinion... What do i know I'm not driving!

You'd think between the mighty Dennis Perry and Dan Scheid that he would leave the line easily at 200 lbs of boost and run the the quarter in 1 flat lol. I'm not sure what the problem is but I've even seen him have traction trouble at half track. Definately something not right.

Yeah, Jimmy fusses at his dad (it's dad's truck) all the time about getting the susp. more capable of power delivery or he won't go any faster because its not safe. In fact, that's why Jimmy drives it and not dad. Dad wouldn't be able to keep it off the wall. Once the susp. is right and the truck launches right, I think Dad will drive it - at least that was the last I had heard and that's been a while. The susp. on the truck is remarkably close to stock. I'd say things will be a bit better launching next season since slicks will be allowed. He fussed about that a little bit as well - not being able to run them and that hurting his ability to get traction.

scary ride for sure. Would be neat to stand in staging and witness the event.

I hope it comes together for them.
