Well, Im going to take the plunge and build a new computer. Ive upgraded lots, but havent built one from scratch before. Can I document my build up here and ask for some advice/suggestions?

I figure Ill give folding a shot when I have a computer with power to spare to do it as well! :thumb:

OK, some copy paste from another board then....

OK... Im sick of my Woot special refurb "Multi Tasking Monster" Gateway tower. The specs on it are...

Vista 64 SP2, AMD Phenom 9150E Quad Core 1.8mhz with 4 GB ram and it sucks. Its little "Assessment Score" is a 3.6, I think out of 10 :rofl

Anyway, time to build myself a new computer. Ive upgraded many, but never done one from scratch. Ive searched around on some of the threads here and gotten some ideas, like watching newegg, slickdeals.net and techbargains.com , and doing some reading at tomshardware.com

Figured Id document my build here start to finish along with all costs so others can see how it prices out and that its not too hard (hopefully :laughing )

This computer will be my main desktop computer and will be used with a 24" 1080P monitor, possibly a 42" 1080P. Heavy Internet/forum usage, along with webmastering an e-commerce site. Photoshop use and 1080P video editing. Large music library and Internet streaming. Basically I want this thing realll powerful :D

As far as gaming... not much. I used to play Counterstrike all the time but havent in a few years. Not to say I wouldnt love to again, so dont necessarily exclude that :D

As far as price, I dont have a set budget since I will be doing this piece by piece, and care more about value then final dollar. IE Finding a top of the line piece on sale for a good deal I will snag, even if its a bit more than a standard piece of equipment.

So, first off I need a case and power supply. Anyone have any good solid recommendations, or at least brands to stay with/against? Same thing with power supply.

Thanks!

I like Antec for PS and Western Digital for HDD... G. Skill and OCZ is great cheap ram. Asus, or MSI for motherboard. LOL I played Counterstrike off and on for like 8 years I played in leagues, online tournament's, LAN center tournament's with my "team" funny stuff

Also Matt pick your video card(s) before your power supply ATI cards are known to need a much higher watt PS vs. an nVidia card

Case and power supply, I would go with antec. been eyeballing the 900 myselft. they just give you so much for the money. PC power and cooling is phenomenal if you can afford it, and corsair and cooler master make nice budget friendly psu's. definitely want to stay in the 750 watt area

Thats not the first time Ive been linked to the Caviar Green Rob... I think Ill pick that up. Itll be used for some data and music storage, Im going to run SSD for the OS and Programs. Waiting for a smokin deal to show up on that.

Off to search for the best deal on a PS :D
