So the company I went to work for is one of like 6 companies they own...I'm on the rig moving side but they have water trucks, recovery trucks, roustabouts, etc..well needless to say there is a line of about 20 old works trucks. From 99 all the way to about 08.

My question, among these is an 06 chevy lbz 3500 crew cab dually..paint is peeling, driver door was bent back by the wind, inside is cloth bench beat to shit, big chunk of foam missing from the usual wear spot on the drivers seat. Jumper seat is gone and replaced with a metal box that has a company radio and cb. Hole in the gauge cluster glass, "A" pillers are hanging off..you get the picture..

Just for shits and giggles I asked how much they'd sell it for. He said make an offer, cause there just gonna rott. Its been parked for 5-7 months, said it was on a service plane when active...but that's been a while, and it ran when they parked it.

What do you guys think a decent offer is? I'm not going to buy it to part out, I want to clean it up, get it running, put a 4" lift, 33"s and a different bed..

Anybody fixed up one that's been in the weeds? Think I should run like hell? I'm on the fence about diving into it..but I think I could get it for under 1000$

Sorry for the book

Input please

Yeah, they treat those trucks like dog shit. Idle 12-20 hours then wfo down the road.

I'd at least start it and see what it sounded like.

My LLY had 13,000+ hours on it where I idled the shit out of it the first 4-5 years I had it as we did 1-2 well pads and we were our own rig movers. Anyhow it's ran daily and when I parked it for a couple months and ran it again it did some goofy shit for a few days.

I'd expect to put at least 2-4K in it for intierior, front end parts and misc shit it's gonna need and maybe an injector or two as I'm sure they run the same nasty fuel I run in mine out of those fuel cells.

I just cut my first fuel filter open- truck has 78k, filter had 8k (I usually change at 3-5k) it was coal black and had some nice slimy shit in it.

Shit I'll take it for a grand. Leave it how it is and keep beating the piss out of it.

They have anymore they want to get rid of like that? Like both on either side? I could use a utility body or two.

Someone correct me, but 250k plus miles, slip tank fuel, hot rodded, tons if idle time, minimum..full service, filters, cp3, injectors, shocks, rebuild front end, new gauge cluster, front seats, jump seat...I honestly don't know how bad idling hurts (if at all) these trucks..

I pulled my engine at 190k and just over 13k hours. It didn't look terrible considering it had been wfo and chipped/tuned since day one. I ran it 60k with bad hg's and 50k with bad injectors. Bearings looked good, cyl walls were scoured just enough to see but not feel and smooth (most of the cross hatching gone) but it ran good and used no oil, I doubt that motor is half as bad as mine.

At 90k and just over 8k hours the motor looked new.

Hell maybe I'm thinking too much into it..could get lucky I guess...I just know how my luck goes

I have shitty luck too, a truck that's used to running everyday like that will be more reliable being ran everyday, if you're gonna leave it sit a lot, there's a 50/50 chance it's gonna give you fits.

Run it and if it blows you can easily get your money back in a few parts. Core injectors are worth nearly what you'd pay.

If it cranked up and ran good enough to drive up a trailer that's a $2500-4000 truck in fl all day

It's crazy but I think it'd sell for that. I looked at one a couple months ago. Lb7 with the heads off and in the cab, moldy interior and a beat up body the guy wanted $2500. I offered $1200 and he got his feelings hurt. After a few weeks I called again and he claimed it was gone and he got $2000. Saw a decent looking 325k mile lb7 that needs a trans listed for $6500 tonight. Bet he'll get close to that for it. Don't think I've ever seen a running Duramax for less than 4k anywhere near me.

That's good to know, I haven't even looked at the market for these kind of trucks. Maybe its a little stronger then I thought. Actually nice to think I could throw a couple grand at it and unload it.
